  1. 1. Cholesterol in T cells homeostasis, plasma membrane organization and signaling

    University dissertation from Stockholm : The Wenner-Gren Institute, Stockholm University

    Author : Saleemulla Mahammad; Stockholms universitet.; [2010]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURAL SCIENCES Biology Cell and molecular biology Cell biology; NATURVETENSKAP Biologi Cell- och molekylärbiologi Cellbiologi; Cell Biology; cellbiologi; Plasma membrane; T cells; Cholesterol; Lipid rafts; Membrane organization; Cholesterol homeostasis; cholesteryl esters;

    Abstract : The plasma membrane of eukaryotic cells contains cholesterol and glycosphingolipids enriched nanodomains known as lipid rafts; which are believed to exist in a liquid ordered (lo) state. Methyl-beta-cyclodextrin (MBCD) is used to deplete cellular cholesterol and a widespread assumption is that MBCD preferentially targets cholesterol in lipid rafts. READ MORE

  2. 2. Advanced Fluorescence Microscopy to Study Plasma Membrane Protein Dynamics

    University dissertation from Lausanne : EPFL

    Author : Joachim Piguet; [2010]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; fluorescence; microscopy; plasma membrane; membrane proteins; membrane proteins diffusion; single-molecule imaging; single-molecule tracking; pentameric ligand-gated ion channels; nicotinic acetylcholine receptor; serotonin receptor; synapse; neuromuscular junction; post-synaptic scaffold; rapsyn; myopathies; fluorescent proteins; Förster resonance energy transfer; FRET imaging; protein-protein interactions; protein trafficking; photo-activatable proteins; Biologisk fysik; Biological Physics;

    Abstract : Membrane protein dynamics is of great importance for living organisms. The precise localization of proteins composing a synapse on the membrane facing a nerve terminus is essential for proper functioning of the nervous system. In muscle fibers, the nicotinic acetylcholine is densely packed under the motor nerve termini. READ MORE

  3. 3. Pathogen entry mechanisms and endocytic responses to plasma membrane damage

    University dissertation from Umeå : Umeå universitet

    Author : Lars Nygård Skalman; Umeå universitet.; [2017]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Endocytosis; plasma membrane; pathogens; virus; bacterial membrane vesicles; Helicobacter pylori; adenovirus 37; listeriolysin O; pore-forming toxins; membrane repair;

    Abstract : Endocytosis is a fundamental cellular process by which cells transport material from the outside to the inside of the cell through the formation of membrane invaginations that bud off from the plasma membrane. This process is important for nutrient uptake, regulating cell surface receptors and the overall plasma membrane composition. READ MORE

  4. 4. Sperm Membrane Channels, Receptors and Kinematics Using boar spermatozoa for drug toxicity screening

    University dissertation from Linköping : Linköping University Electronic Press

    Author : Alejandro Vicente Carrillo; Linköpings universitet.; Linköpings universitet.; [2016]

    Abstract : Internal fertilization usually implies that a spermatozoon, with intact attributes for zygote formation, passes all hurdles during its transport through the female genitalia and reaches the oocyte. During this journey, millions to billions of other spermatozoa perish. READ MORE

  5. 5. Plasma membrane arabinogalactan proteins

    University dissertation from Linköping : Linköping University Electronic Press

    Author : Lars Snogerup; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; [1997]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; arabinogalactan protein plant development cell-cell interaction plasma membrane; Plant biochemistry; Växtbiokemi;

    Abstract : Arabinogalactan proteins (AGPs) are proteoglycans found at the outer side of the plasma membrane and in the extracellular matrix of plants. To be able to study the plasma membrane bound AGPs, a method using SDS-agarose gel electrophoresis (SDS-AGE) was developed to overcome the problems associated with electrophoretic separation of highly glycosylated proteins.
