  1. 1. Material migration in tokamaks: Studies of deposition processes and characterisation of dust particles

    Author : Armin Weckmann; Marek Rubel; Per Petersson; Daniel Primetzhofer; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; tokamak; fusion; plasma; material migration; particle transport; TEXTOR; PWI; plasma-wall interaction; plasma facing components; PFC; PFM; plasma facing materials; ALT limiter; MoF6; tracer experiment; molybdenum hexafluoride; future energy source; fuel retention; deuterium retention;

    Abstract : Thermonuclear fusion may become an attractive future power source. The most promising of all fusion machine concepts is the tokamak. Despite decades of active research, still huge tasks remain before a fusion power plant can go online. One of these important tasks deals with the interaction between the fusion plasma and the reactor wall. READ MORE

  2. 2. Ion Beam Analysis of First Wall Materials Exposed to Plasma in Fusion Devices

    Author : Per Petersson; Göran Possnert; Anders Hallén; Marek Rubel; Eduardo C. Alves; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ion beam analysis; Microbeam; Plasma wall interaction; Deuterium; Beryllium; Carbon fibre composites; Divertor; Nuclear reaction analysis; Helium-3; Plasma physics with fusion; Plasmafysik med fusion; Ion Physics; Jonfysik;

    Abstract : One major step needed for fusion to become a reliable energy source is the development of materials for the extreme conditions (high temperature, radioactivity and erosion) caused by hot plasmas. The main goal of the present study is to use and optimise ion beam methods (lateral resolution and sensitivity) to characterise the distribution of hydrogen isotopes that act as fuel. READ MORE

  3. 3. Impact of material migration on plasma-facing components in tokamaks

    Author : Alvaro Garcia Carrasco; Marek Rubel; Didier Mazon; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fusion; material migration; wall conditioning; diagnostic mirrors; plasma-facing materials; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : Plasma-wall interaction plays an essential role in the performance and safety of a fusion reactor. This thesis focuses on the impact of material migration on plasma-facing components. It is based on experiments performed in tokamaks: JET, TEXTOR and ASDEX Upgrade. READ MORE

  4. 4. Resonant magnetic perturbation effect on the tearing mode dynamics : Novel measurements and modeling of magnetic fluctuation induced momentum transport in the reversed-field pinch

    Author : Richard Fridström; Per Brunsell; Lorenzo Frassinetti; Tommaso Bolzonella; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; RFP; reversed-field pinch; tokamak; tearing mode; RMP; fusion; plasma; resonant magnetic perturbation; stochastic; magnetic; field; viscosity; mode; locking; Electrical Engineering; Elektro- och systemteknik;

    Abstract : The tearing mode (TM) is a resistive instability that can arise in magnetically confined plasmas. The TM can be driven unstable by the gradient of the plasma current. When the mode grows it destroys the magnetic field symmetry and reconnects the magnetic field in the form of a so-called magnetic island. READ MORE

  5. 5. Interacting particles and droplets at low Reynolds numbers

    Author : Lisa Prahl; Strömningsteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Gases; VOS; VOF; Multiphase flow; Interaction; Particles; Droplets; fluid dynamics; plasmas; Gaser; fluiddynamik; plasma;

    Abstract : The overall purpose with this work is to study the flow past particles and droplets using numerical simulations. Especially the interaction among particles and droplets have been a main objective as the results are to be used in order to improve already existing spray models. READ MORE
