  1. 21. Negative Pressure Wound Therapy - Mechanisms of Action and Protecting Exposed Blood Vessels in the Wound Bed

    Author : Erik Anesäter; Thoraxkirurgi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Negative pressure wound therapy; wounds; complications; experimental surgery; blood flow;

    Abstract : NPWT has recently been associated with severe complications and bleeding when used in wounds with exposed blood vessels. The aims of this work were to investigate the mechanisms of action of NPWT and to explore the possibility of using thin plastic discs to protect exposed blood vessels in the wound bed during NPWT. 2. 22. CLEFT LIP AND PALATE. CLINICAL STUDIES REGARDING SPEECH AND FACIAL GROWTH

    Author : Farokh Farzaneh; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; speech; cranio-facial morphology; perceptual speech analysis; long-term results; unilateral cleft lip and palate; cephalometry; von Langenbeck; bilateral cleft lip and palate; Wardill;

    Abstract : Cleft lip and palate (CLP), the most common of all craniofacial anomalies, has an incidence about 2 per 1000 births in the Scandinavian countries. The Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in Malmö has been a regional centre in southern Sweden for the treatment of patients with CLP since 1954 with about 40 new cases of clefts each year. 3. 23. NO, Immunosuppression and Tumor Immmunotherapy

    Author : Pontus Hegardt; Neurokirurgi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Immunology; serology; transplantation; Immunologi; serologi; IL-18; IFN-gamma; rat; colon carcinoma; glioma; tumor immunotherapy; immunosuppression; NO; iNOS;

    Abstract : This study aims at clarifying the role of NO in the immunosuppression induced by in vivo tumor growth and by tumor immunotherapy, and determining whether the inhibition of NO production can be used as an adjuvant in tumor immunotherapy. We have shown previously that tumor cells, glioma (N32) and colon carcinoma (H1D2), when genetically engineered to express such immune stimulatory cytokines as IFN-g and IL-18, induce strong anti-tumor immune response, in immunized tumor-free rats, whereas only a limited therapeutic effect is achieved in rats in which a tumor has already become established. 4. 24. Towards a tactile artifical hand

    Author : Ulrika Wijk; Malmö Handkirurgi; []

    Abstract : Amputation of a hand is a life-changing event, and the loss of motor and sensory functions leads to disability and has devastating effects on the individual. What is normally performed using two hands must be solved with only one, and the loss also affects body balance and body posture. READ MORE

  5. 25. Large data and machine learning in analysis, diagnostics, and clinical decision making: applications in the treatment of burn injury

    Author : Jian Fransén; Fredrik Huss; Johan Lundin; Yvette Andersson; Andrew Lindford; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Burn wound infection; Antibiotic susceptibility; Burn mortality; Machine learning; Burns; Burn assessment; Convolutional neural network; Artificial intelligence; Intensive care; ; Plastikkirurgi; Plastic Surgery; Surgery; Kirurgi; Machine learning; Maskininlärning;

    Abstract : Burn injury is a common trauma globally. Large burns require fluid resuscitation, infection control, and specialized intensive care. The size of the burn and infections caused by resistant microbes are correlated to mortality, and accurate mortality predictions are important. READ MORE
