6. Innovations in nanomaterials for proton exchange membrane fuel cells
Abstract : Hydrogen technologies are rapidly receiving increased attention as it offers a renewable energy alternative to the current petroleum-based fuel infrastructure, considering that continued large-scale use of such fossil fuels will lead to disastrous impacts on our environment. The proton exchange membrane fuel cell should play a significant role in a hydrogen economy since it enables convenient and direct conversion of hydrogen into electricity, thus allowing the use of hydrogen in applications particularly suited for the transportation industry. 7. Nanostructured Catalysts and Electrode Materials for PEM Fuel Cells
Abstract : The Polymer Electrolyte Membrane Fuel Cell (PEMFC) is a promising energy converting technology for powering automotives and electrical equipment using hydrogen gas as fuel and producing water as the only exhaust. The active carbon-supported platinum catalyst present in the electrodes limits the maximum power generation in state-of-the-art PEMFCs due to platinum’s poor activity for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) taking place at the cathode. 8. Catalysis for Lean NOx Reduction - Aspects of Catalyst Synthesis and Surface Acidity
Abstract : From both economic and environmental perspectives it is desirable to reduce the consumption of fossil fuels. One route to increase the fuel efficiency for vehicles is operation in oxygen excess. However, a major problem with this technique is the lean environment, which obstructs catalytic reduction of nitrogen oxides (NOx) to harmless nitrogen. READ MORE

9. New Materials for Gas Sensitive Field-Effect Device Studies
Abstract : Gas sensor control is potentially one of the most important techniques of tomorrow for the environment. All over the world cars are preferred for transportation, and accordingly the number of cars increases, unfortunately, together with pollutants. Boilers and powerplants are other sources of pollutants to the environment. READ MORE

10. Nanoparticle Plasmons in Classic and Novel Materials - Fundamentals and Hydrogen Sensing
Abstract : The interaction of light with sub-wavelength noble metal nanoparticles and nanostructures has developed into one of the most vibrant themes of nanoscience during the past decade. The optical properties of metal nanoparticles are dominated by so-called nanoparticle plasmons or localized surface plasmon resonances (LSPR). READ MORE
