  1. 1. Look-ahead control for fuel-efficient and safe heavy-duty vehicle platooning

    Author : Valerio Turri; Karl H. Johansson; Petros Ioannou; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; platoon; platooning; optimization; optimal control; model predictive control; automatic control; fuel efficiency; intelligent transport systems; automated driving; cooperative; dynamic programming; trucks; heavy-duty vehicles; safe platooning; fuel-efficient platooning; distributed model predictive control; MPC; vehicle-following; pulse and glide; Vehicle and Maritime Engineering; Farkostteknik;

    Abstract : The operation of heavy-duty vehicles at small inter-vehicular distances, known as platoons, lowers the aerodynamic drag and, therefore, reduces fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. Tests conducted on flat roads have shown the potential of platooning to reduce the fuel consumption of about 10%. READ MORE

  2. 2. Modelling and Simulation for Evaluation of Cooperative Intelligent Transport System Functions

    Author : Maytheewat Aramrattana; Tony Ingemar Larsson; Jonas Jansson; Kenneth Lind; Statens väg- och transportforskningsinstitut; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Cooperative ITS; Autonomous driving; Traffic mixture; Simulation; Adaptive cruise control; Platooning electronic ; 23 Road: ITS och traffic; 23 Road: ITS och traffic;

    Abstract : Future vehicles are expected to be equipped with wireless communication technology, that enables them to be “connected” to each others and road infrastructures. Complementing current autonomous vehicles and automated driving systems, the wireless communication allows the vehicles to interact, cooperate, and be aware of its surroundings beyond their own sensors’ range. Abstract : Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems (C-ITS) enable actors in the transport systems to interact and collaborate by exchanging information via wireless communication networks. There are several challenges to overcome before they can be implemented and deployed on public roads. READ MORE

  4. 4. Fuel-Efficient Heavy-Duty Vehicle Platooning

    Author : Assad Alam; Karl H. Johansson; Roberto Horowitz; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Platooning; Heavy-Duty Vehicle; Optimal Control; Electrical Engineering; Elektro- och systemteknik;

    Abstract : The freight transport industry faces big challenges as the demand for transport and fuel prices are steadily increasing, whereas the environmental impact needs to be significantly reduced. Heavy-duty vehicle (HDV) platooning is a promising technology for a sustainable transportation system. READ MORE

  5. 5. Performance evaluation of C-ACC/platooning under ITS-G5 communications

    Author : Nikita Lyamin; Alexey Vinel; Magnus Jonsson; Boris Bellalta; Mikael Asplund; Högskolan i Halmstad; []

    Abstract : Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) are aiming to provide innovative services related to different modes of transport and traffic management, and enable various users to be better informed and make safer, more coordinated and smarter use of transport networks. Cooperative-ITS (C-ITS) support connectivity between vehicles, vehicles and roadside infrastructure, traffic signals as well as with other road users. READ MORE
