  2. 2. Glacial geology and palaeo-ice dynamics of two ice-sheet margins, Taymyr Peninsula, Siberia and Jameson Land, East Greenland

    Author : Helena Alexanderson; Kvartärgeologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ice dynamics; Pleistocene; Arctic Siberia; East Greenland; Sedimentology; Physical geography; Sedimentologi; pedology; geomorphology; klimatologi; kartografi; marklära; geomorfologi; cartography; Fysisk geografi; ice-marginal processes; glacial history; climatology;

    Abstract : The North Taymyr ice-marginal zone (NTZ) on the Taymyr Peninsula, Arctic Siberia and the Ugleelv Valley on Jameson Land, East Greenland, have been investigated with the aim of reconstructing the glacial history, including depositional processes and environments. Geomorphological, sedimentological, stratigraphical and remote sensing methods have been combined to give a comprehensive view of developments in the two areas. READ MORE

  3. 3. Climate in the eastern Mediterranean during the Holocene and beyond – A Peloponnesian perspective

    Author : Martin Finné; Karin Holmgren; Hanna S. Sundqvist; Georgia Destouni; Neil Roberts; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Stable isotopes; U-Th dating; stalagmites; climate variability; flooding history; eastern Mediterranean; southern Greece; Holocene; Pleistocene; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Abstract : This thesis contributes increased knowledge about climate variability during the late Quaternary in the eastern Mediterranean. Results from a paleoclimate review reveal that regional wetter conditions from 6000 to 5400 years BP were replaced by a less wet period from 5400 to 4600 years BP and to fully arid conditions around 4600 years BP. 4. 4. Systematics, phylogeography and multiple origins of morphs in two species complexes belonging to Cistaceae, Helianthemum oelandicum and H. nummularium

    Author : Eman Soubani; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; introgression; parallel evolution; postglacial migration; genetic polymorphism; Pleistocene; morphometry; H. nummularium; Helianthemum oelandicum; cpDNA;

    Abstract : The Helianthemum oelandicum complex shows considerable morphological variation across its geographic distribution in Europe and western Asia. By combining four primer pairs and four restriction enzymes I identified nine cpDNA haplotypes with distinct geographical distributions. READ MORE

  5. 5. Investigating the impacts of Late Pleistocene climate change on Arctic mammals using palaeogenomics

    Author : Edana Lord; Love Dalén; Mirte Bosse; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; palaeogenomics; Arctic; Late Pleistocene; past climate; collared lemming; woolly rhinoceros; Norwegian lemming; muskox; demography; population structure; speciation; adaptation; genome erosion; Systematic Zoology; zoologisk systematik och evolutionsforskning;

    Abstract : The climatic fluctuations of the Late Pleistocene likely had a large impact on the evolutionary history of Arctic species. Palaeogenomics is a useful tool to shed light on how past populations responded to these climatic shifts and the associated ice sheet dynamics and sea level change. READ MORE
