  1. 6. NMR Diffusion Studies of Association in Surfactant Systems Inclusion Complexes, Micellar Solutions and Microemulsions

    Author : Markus Nilsson; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; host-guest complexation; gemini surfactant; cyclodextrin; bolaform surfactant; self-diffusion NMR; pluronic; bicontinuous microemulsion; polydispersity; boosting effect;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis has been to investigate self-diffusion behavior of host-guest complex, microemulsion and polymer solution. Pulsed Field Gradient NMR (PFG-NMR) was shown to provide detailed molecular information in all system studied. READ MORE

  2. 7. Ternary Block Copolymer Systems - Phase Behaviour and Phase Structure

    Author : Birgitta Svensson; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Theoretical chemistry; lyotropic; thermotropic; SANS; SAXS; scattering; semicrystalline; reverse micelle; micellar solution; liquid crystalline; phase diagram; phase behaviour; block copolymer; pluronic; poly ethylene oxide ; poly propylene oxide ; quantum chemistry; Teoretisk kemi; kvantkemi;

    Abstract : Ternary isothermal (25°C) polyoxyalkylene triblock block copolymer ((EO)x(PO)y(EO)x where x is the number of ethylene oxide, EO, segments and y is the number of propylene oxide, PO, segments) systems with water and p-xylene as selective solvents for the PEO and PPO blocks, respectively, were chosen as study systems in this thesis as these ternary systems are good model systems for the self-assembly of block copolymers. The phase behaviour has been studied at varied block copolymer molecular weight and relative PEO/PPO block ratio. READ MORE

  3. 8. Antibacterial materials for wound care applications utilizing antimicrobial peptides

    Author : Edvin Blomstrand; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; self-assembly; lyotropic liquid crystals; antibacterial surface; Antimicrobial peptides; Pluronic F-127; hydrogels;

    Abstract : The spread of antibiotic resistance among bacteria has shown that the development of alternative treatments of infections is of vital importance. This thesis has looked at one potential candidate, antimicrobial peptides (AMPs), as an alternative or compliment to traditional antibiotics. READ MORE

  4. 9. Formation of Block Copolymer and Surfactant Vesicles

    Author : Karin Bryskhe; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Polymerteknik; Fysikalisk kemi; biopolymers; Polymer technology; nanoparticles; Lipid; triblock copolymer; surfactants; Nonionic; Vesicles; Formation; Physical chemistry;

    Abstract : In this thesis temperature induced vesicle formation in both a block copolymer system and nonionic surfactant system have been investigated. The block copolymer is a triblock copolymer of poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) and poly(propylene oxide) (PPO), PEO-PPO-PEO, with the average molecular composition of EO5PO68EO5 and the commercial trade name Pluronic L121 (papers I, II). 5. 10. Towards a responsive functional material: Modification of porosity and grafting of poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) in mesoporous silica SBA-15

    Author : Nina Reichhardt; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; mesoporous silica; SBA-15; intrawall pores; PNIPAAM; lower critical solution temperature; water sorption calorimetry; gas sorption;

    Abstract : Mesoporous silica materials, such as SBA-15, have potential as biocompatible carriers for pharmaceutical applications as well as mini-reactors in e.g. catalysis. This potential arises from their well-defined porous structure on the nanometre scale accompanied by a high internal surface area (800 - 1000 m2/g). READ MORE
