  1. 1. Thioredoxins and gene regulation in the Drosophila germline

    Author : Malin J. Svensson; Jan Larsson; David Roberts; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Drosophila; thioredoxin; sex-specific; Pof; chromosome 4; gene regulation; kromosom 4; genreglering; Drosophila; thioredoxin; könsspecifik; Pof; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi;

    Abstract : Spermatogenesen är i många organismer en av de mest dramatiska förvandlingar som en cell kan genomgå – en vanlig, rund, diploid cell omvandlas till en nålformad, haploid cell med ett tätt packat cellmaskineri. I bananfluga, Drosophila melanogaster, innebär denna process flera karaktäristiska stadier. READ MORE

  2. 2. Chromosome-wide gene regulatory mechanisms in Drosophila melanogaster

    Author : Anna-Mia Johansson; Jan Larsson; Kristen M. Johansen; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chromatin structure; Drosophila; POF; disage compensation; gene expression; MSL; heterochromatin; Genetics; Genetik; genetik; Genetics;

    Abstract : In Drosophila there are two different chromosome-wide targeting systems, the dosage compensation system that equalizes the transcriptional output from X-linked genes between males and females, and the regulation of the 4th chromosome mediated by the POF protein.   The best studied of these two mechanisms is the dosage compensation system. 3. 3. Aneuploidy compensatory mechanisms and genome-wide regulation of gene expression in Drosophila melanogaster

    Author : Lina Lundberg; Jan Larsson; Brian Oliver; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Genome-wide gene regulation; aneuploidy; buffering; HP1a; POF; SETDB1; Su var 3-9; MSL; roX; genetik; Genetics;

    Abstract : Stimulation or repression of gene expression by genome-wide regulatory mechanisms is an important epigenetic regulatory function which can act to efficiently regulate larger regions or specific groups of genes, for example by compensating for loss or gain of chromosome copy numbers. In Drosophila melanogaster there are two known chromosome-wide regulatory systems; the MSL complex, which mediates dosage compensation of the single male X-chromosome and POF, which stimulates expression from the heterochromatic 4th chromosome. 4. 4. Chromosome-specific adaptations of RNA stability and the roles of the roX RNAs in dosage compensation

    Author : Marie-Line Faucillion; Jan Larsson; Jean-Yves Roignant; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Drosophila melanogaster; dosage compensation; buffering; RNA stability; RNA decay; RNA half-life; RNA-seq; genome-wide; sex chromosomes; evolution; roX1; roX2; POF; MSL; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Abstract : Sex chromosomes evolved from an ancient pair of autosomes and the Y chromosome lost most of its genetic information in the process. This created two kinds of genomic imbalances: the first one between males (XY) and females (XX) and the second one between the sex chromosomes and the autosomes (X:AA). READ MORE
