  1. 16. Epidemiological aspects of musculoskeletal pain in the upper body. Analyzing common and recurrent binary outcomes

    Author : Anna Grimby-Ekman; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; musculoskeletal; pain; neck; repeated measurements; logistic model; odds ratio OR ; risk ratio RR ; risk difference RD ; biological interaction;

    Abstract : The overall aim of this thesis is to gain epidemiological knowledge about musculoskeletal pain in the upper body in light physical work, in relation to gender, psychosocial factors, and computer use; and to compare different methods for analyzing common and recurrent binary outcomes. Two study groups were investigated using questionnaire data: (a) computer users in the Swedish workforce and (b) a cohort of university students. READ MORE

  2. 17. Computer based statistical treatment in models with incidental parameters : inspired by car crash data

    Author : Anna Vadeby; Ola Hössjer; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mathematical model; Accident; Statistics; Analysis; Driver; Characteristics; MATHEMATICS; MATEMATIK; 812 Road: Collation of accident statistics; 812 Road: Collation of accident statistics;

    Abstract : Bootstrap and Markov chain Monte Carlo methods have received much attention in recent years. We study computer intensive methods that can be used in complex situations where it is not possible to express the likelihood estimates or the posterior analytically. The work is inspired by a set of car crash data from real traffic. READ MORE

  3. 18. Asymptotics and dynamics in first-passage and continuum percolation

    Author : Daniel Ahlberg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; first-passage percolation; noise sensitivity; continuum percolation; Gilbert model; limit theorems; shape theorem; stopped random walks; large deviations; dynamical percolation; continuum percolation;

    Abstract : This thesis combines the study of asymptotic properties of percolation processes with various dynamical concepts. First-passage percolation is a model for the spatial propagation of a fluid on a discrete structure; the Shape Theorem describes its almost sure convergence towards an asymptotic shape, when considered on the square (or cubic) lattice. 4. 19. Configuration spaces, props and wheel-free deformation quantization

    Author : Theo Backman; Sergei Merkulov; Sergei Shadrin; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; operad; properad; prop; deformation quantization; configuration space; Lie bialgebra; Poisson manifold; Mathematics; matematik;

    Abstract : The main theme of this thesis is higher algebraic structures that come from operads and props.The first chapter is an introduction to the mathematical framework needed for the content of this thesis. The chapter does not contain any new results. READ MORE

  5. 20. Stochastic epidemics on random networks and competition in growth

    Author : Carolina Fransson; Pieter Trapman; Daniel Ahlberg; Julia Komjathy; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; random graphs; branching processes; SIR epidemics; malthusian parameter; urn model; matematisk statistik; Mathematical Statistics;

    Abstract : The COVID-19 pandemic has dramatically demonstrated the importance of epidemic models in understanding and predicting disease spread and in assessing the effectiveness of interventions. The overarching topic of this thesis is stochastic epidemic modelling, with the main focus on the role of the underlying social structure in infectious disease spread. READ MORE
