  1. 1. Ageing behavior of plastics used in automotive fuel systems

    Author : Xin-Feng Wei; Mikael S. Hedenqvist; Richard Olsson; Ulf W Gedde; Pieter Gijsman; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Automotive; Ageing; Polyamide; Diesel; Biodiesel; Diffusion; Oxidation; Plasticizer migration; Mechanical properties; Fracture behavior.; Fordon; Åldrande; Polyamid; Diesel; Biodiesel; Diffusion; Oxidation; Mjukgöraravgång; Mekaniska egenskaper; Brottegenskaper;

    Abstract : The increase in service temperature and the use of biobased fuels, such as biodiesel, have raised concerns on the short/long-term performance of plastic components used in automotive fuel systems.In this work the ageing behavior of unreinforced and glass-fibre reinforced polyamide 12 (PA12), exposed to three different fuels (petroleum diesel, biodiesel, and a mixture of these (80/20)) at high temperature, was investigated. 2. 2. Design of renewable and functional polyamides and polyhydroxyurethanes with tunable structure-property relationships

    Author : Charalampos Pronoitis; Karin Odelius; Minna Hakkarainen; Stefan Naumann; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; polyamide; polyhydroxyurethane; polyester; ring-opening aminolysis; ring-opening polymerization; covalent adaptable network; copolymer; complex architecture; polyamid; polyhydroxyuretan; polyester; ringöppningsaminolys; ringöppningspolymerisation; dynamiska nätverk; sampolymer; komplex arkitektur; Fiber- och polymervetenskap; Fibre and Polymer Science;

    Abstract : Redesigning polymeric materials and rethinking their use is imperative in the prospect of a more sustainable future. Critical aspects in this endeavor are the use of renewable monomers to decrease the environmental footprint, implementing green syntheses and production processes and the design for increased recyclability as an end-of-life option to diverge from the generation of plastic waste. 3. 3. Preparation and Compatibilizing Properties of Poly(styrene-graft-ethylene oxide) in Polymer Blends

    Author : Patric Jannasch; Centrum för analys och syntes; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Anionic Polymerization of Ethylene Oxide; Polystyrene; Polymer technology; biopolymers; Polymerteknik; Ethoxylation; Grafting; Poly styrene-graft-ethylene oxide ; Crystallization; Interphases; Macrophases; Poly butyl acrylate ; Compatibilization of Polymer Blends; Polyamide;

    Abstract : One of the main trends in the polymer industry today is the increasing importance of polymer blends. Combining two or more immiscible polymers in a polymer blend often leads to multi-phase materials with desirable properties. READ MORE

  4. 4. Morphology of Polymers - Development of Electron Microscopy Methods

    Author : Helen Hassander; Centrum för analys och syntes; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; SEM; TEM; polymer; electron microscopy; Polymer technology; biopolymers; Polymerteknik;

    Abstract : Most polymeric materials used today are not simple homopolymers, but consist of more than one polymer, which lead to morphologies of different length scale and shape. It is important to receive knowledge of the morphologies because the properties of the materials change depending on the structure. READ MORE

  5. 5. Designed from Recycled: Microwave-Assisted Upcycling of Plastic Waste

    Author : Eva Bäckström; Minna Hakkarainen; Karin Odelius; Antal Boldizar; KTH; []
    Keywords : Fiber- och polymervetenskap; Fibre and Polymer Science;

    Abstract : Mismanagement of plastic waste is of great concern. To reach a more sustainable society, methodologies to handle materials in a more circular way needs to be developed. READ MORE
