  1. 21. Interactions of Anticancer Active Platinum(II) Complexes with DNA

    Author : Johan Kjellström; Bröstcancer-genetik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Inorganic chemistry; polyelectrolyte; medium effects; salt dependence; DSC; CD; HPLC; oligonucleotide; hairpin; DNA; anticancer active platinum II compounds; kinetics; mechanism; Oorganisk kemi; Cytology; oncology; cancerology; Cytologi; onkologi; cancer;

    Abstract : The kinetics and mechanism for interactions of the anticancer active platinum(II) complexes cis-[PtCl2(NH3)2)], cis-[PtCl2(NH3)(c-C6H11NH2)], and trans-[PtCl2-(NH3)(quinoline)] with DNA have been studied using a combination of HPLC, circular dichroism (CD), UV/vis spectroscopy, and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Reactions of the monoaqua forms (charge = +1) of these complexes with single-stranded DNA oligonucleotides, typically between 13-17 bases long, were found to depend on i) the composition of the reaction medium, ii) the exact nature and location of the platination target, and iii) on the DNA structure. 2. 22. Association Phenomena Involving Hydrophobically Modified Polymers. Electrostatic and Hydrophobic Contributions

    Author : Marina Tsianou; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; scaling; light scattering; rheology; aqueous solution behavior; phase behavior; cyclodextrin; surfactant; polyacrylate; cellulose ether; polyelectrolyte; hydrophobically modified polymer; Polymer; water soluble polymer; viscosity; association; segregation; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi;

    Abstract : The electrostatic and hydrophobic interactions in aqueous solutions of hydrophobically-modified water-soluble non-ionic or ionic polymers, their mixtures with a second polymer, nonionic or of opposite charge, and their mixtures with surfactants of opposite charge have been investigated. The relative strength of the electrostatic and hydrophobic contributions has been modulated by a variation of the polymer charge density and the solution pH, and by a variation in the degree and strength of the hydrophobic modifications, respectively. 3. 23. Theoretical and Experimental Studies of Polymer Adsorption and Polymer Mediated Interactions

    Author : Fei Xie; Beräkningskemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Polyelectrolyte; Adsorption; Colloid; Polymer; Dispersion; Interation; Ellipsometry; Monte Carlo Simulation; Classical Density Functional Theory;

    Abstract : Polyelectrolyte adsorption and polymer mediated interactions in different colloidal polymer systems have been studied in this work. Theoretical methods and experimental techniques are combined, in order to obtain more general reliable results, as well as a deep understanding of the molecular mechanisms that are responsible for the observed behaviors. 4. 24. Self assembly of surfactants and polyelectrolytes in solution and at interfaces

    Author : Luis Alejandro Bastardo Zambrano; Per Claesson; Jan Skov Pedersen; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Surfactant; polyelectrolyte; small–angle neutron scattering; static light scattering; dynamic light scattering; polyelectrolyte–surfactant association; protein; Surface and colloid chemistry; Yt- och kolloidkemi;

    Abstract : This thesis focuses on the study of the interactions between polyelectrolytes and surfactants in aqueous solutions and at interfaces, as well as on the structural changes these molecules undergo due to that interaction. Small–angle neutron scattering, dynamic, and static light scattering were the main techniques used to investigate the interactions in bulk. READ MORE

    Abstract : Paper packaging is commonly found in the form of paper and cardboard boxes, but recently paper packing is being used in food packaging, trays, beverage packaging and even paper straws, among others. Paper strength additives have been developed to increase the efficiency of the joint strength and the joint areas and potentially maintain bulk in paper products. READ MORE
