11. Computational studies of Poly(vinylidene fluoride) and Poly(vinylidene fluoride) - Single Wall Carbon Nanotube Composites
Abstract : Poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) exhibits properties that allows the material to be used in such diverse areas as wire and cable products, electronic devices, membranes, exterior coatings for constructions and in the chemical, pharmaceutical and food industry as fluid-handling equipment. It is the inherent molecular structure of PVDF, where every second backbone carbon is bonded to two fluorine atoms, that gives the polymer several unique properties, among them piezo- and pyroelectricity. 12. Soft Intelligence : Liquids Matter in Compliant Microsystems
Abstract : Soft matter, here, liquids and polymers, have adaptability to a surrounding geometry. They intrinsically have advantageous characteristics from a mechanical perspective, such as flowing and wetting on surrounding surfaces, giving compliant, conformal and deformable behavior. READ MORE

13. Studies on the thermal degradation of thermosetting polyimides and their composites
Abstract : The thesis contains a background and reflections section, an introduction, and three appended articles. The first section is reserved for some of the background and basics on polymers and polymer composites and a discussion on their effect on our everyday lives. The introduction gives a brief recap of the project. READ MORE

14. Processing and properties of thermoplastic composites containing cellulose nanocrystals or wood-based cellulose fibres
Abstract : Cellulose nanocrystals (CNC) were surface modified with dialkylamines to increase the compatibility between the CNC and the polymeric matrix, and promising results were obtained, with a 300 % stiffness increase when the mixed dispersion was compression moulded on a laboratory scale. The manufacturing process was up-scaled using water-assisted mixing in a twin-screw extruder (TSE) followed by a second compounding step and injection moulding (IM). READ MORE

15. On numerical analyses of woven composite laminates : Homogenization, damage and fracture
Abstract : This dissertation analyzes various mechanical properties of textile reinforced composite laminates. The dissertation is based on a total of six published works, which are essentially numerical, although experimental elements are available. READ MORE
