  1. 16. Improved high velocity cold copaction processing : polymer powder to high performance parts

    Author : Bruska Azhdar; Sture Persson; Cornell Nicolescu; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; high-velocity compaction; powder polymers; polyamide-11; relaxation assist; compactibility; relative green density; morphology; pull-out; springback; Polymer chemistry; Polymerkemi;

    Abstract : A uniaxial High-Velocity Compaction (HVC) process for polymer powder using a cylindrical, hardened steel die and a new technique with relaxation assist was tested with a focus on the compactibility characteristics and surface morphology of the compacted materials using various heights of relaxation assist device with different compacting profiles. Relaxation assist device was presented as a new technique to reduce springback, pull-out phenomenon and to improve the compaction process. READ MORE

  2. 17. Understanding the mechanisms behind atom transfer radical polymerization : exploring the limit of control

    Author : Helena Bergenudd; Mats Jonsson; Eva Malmström Jonsson; David M Haddleton; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; polymerization; controlled radical polymerization; atom transfer radical polymerization; kinetics; catalysis; electrochemistry; Polymer chemistry; Polymerkemi;

    Abstract : Atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) is one of the most commonly employed techniques for controlled radical polymerization. ATRP has great potential for the development of new materials due to the ability to control molecular weight and polymer architecture. READ MORE

  3. 18. Hyaluronan Derivatives and Injectable Gels for Tissue Engineering

    Author : Kristoffer Bergman; Tim Bowden; Jöns Hilborn; Jeffrey Hubbell; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Hyaluronan; Hydrogel; Tissue Engineering; Scaffold; Minimally invasive strategy; Bone morphogenetic protein; Hydroxyapatite; Bone; Cartilage; Tendon; Polymer chemistry; Polymerkemi;

    Abstract : The present work describes the preparation of hyaluronan derivatives and hydrogels with potential use in tissue engineering applications. A potentially injectable hydrogel consisting of hyaluronan and collagen was successfully used to grow neurons in vitro by encapsulation of neural stem and progenitor cells. READ MORE

  4. 19. Porous polymeric materials for chromatography : Synthesis, functionalization and characterization

    Author : Emil Byström; Knut Irgum; Camilla Viklund; Solomon Tesfalidet; Klaus K Unger; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; porous polymer monolith; pore size distribution; nitrogen sorptiometry; mercury intrusion porosimetry; scanning and transmission electron microscopy; plasma functionalization; Analytical chemistry; Analytisk kemi; Separation methods; Separationsmetoder; Polymer chemistry; Polymerkemi; analytisk kemi; Analytical Chemistry;

    Abstract : Background: Separation science is heavily reliant on materials to fulfill ever more complicated demands raised by other areas of science, notably the rapidly expanding molecular biosciences and environmental monitoring. The key to successful separations lies in a combination of physical properties and surface chemistry of stationary phases used in liquid chromatographic separation, and this thesis address both aspects of novel separation materials. 5. 20. Atom transfer radical polymerization from multifunctional substrates

    Author : Anna Carlmark; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Polymer chemistry; Polymerkemi;

    Abstract : Atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) has proven to be a powerful technique to obtain polymers with narrow polydispersities and controlled molecular weight. It also offers control over chain-ends. READ MORE
