1. Porphyrins and heme in microorganisms : Porphyrin content and its relation to phototherapy and antimicrobial treatments in vivo and in vitro
Abstract : One of the greatest threats to human health is increasing antimicrobial resistance among pathogens, and finding alternatives for treatment of bacterial infections is of highest importance together with a more controlled use of antibiotics. Porphyrins and heme have both been shown to be a promising class of compounds for inactivation of bacteria; porphyrins by their excellent properties to act as a photosensitizer, and heme by its importance as an iron source during a bacterial infection in vertebrates. 2. Colors of Life and Optoelectronics: Zinc Porphyrins for Light-Emitting Electrochemical Cells and Organic Photodetectors
Abstract : The field of organic optoelectronics constitutes an interdisciplinary field that covers chemistry, physics, materials science and biology. The technological promises of the organic materials over their inorganic counterparts include a lower production cost and the feasibility to be processed through solution-based techniques on large-area and/or flexible substrates. 4. Structural chemistry and optical application
Abstract : The demand for materials with optical activities against LASER radiation has been extensively increased over the last decade with the development of sophisticated high energetic LASER sources. The goal is to obtain organic or metal-organic molecules capable of increasing their absorptions against LASER irradiance while still maintaining a degree of transmittance. READ MORE

5. The role of knockout driven fragmentation in collision with isolated complex molecular systems
Abstract : This licentiate thesis covers results from collision induced dissociation (CID) experiments of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs), hydrogentated PAHs (HPAHs) and porphyrins. PAHs and HPAHs are believed to play key roles in the evolution of complex molecules in space, while porphyrins are essential for various functions in living organisms. READ MORE
