  1. 21. Hand grip strength and postural control among individuals with and without Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease : Epidemiological and motion laboratory studies

    Author : Viktor Strandkvist; Ulrik Röijezon; Anne Lindberg; Caroline Stridsman; Agneta Larsson; André Nyberg; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Fysioterapi; Physiotherapy;

    Abstract : BackgroundChronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is estimated to affect approximately 8%–10% of all adults. The disease is considered to be a heterogenic syndrome with systemic effects, in which comorbidities including cardiovascular diseases, muscle dysfunction and fatigue are common. READ MORE

  2. 22. Motor control of the knee : kinematic and EMG studies of healthy individuals and people with patellofemoral pain

    Author : Ann-Katrin Stensdotter; Charlotte Häger-Ross; Gunnevi Sundelin; Gertjan Ettema; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Kinematics; Kinetic chain tasks; Knee; Motor Control; Muscle activity; Patellofemoral pain; Unpredictable perturbations; Physiotherapy; Sjukgymnastik fysioterapi;

    Abstract : Patellofemoral pain (PFP) is believed to be associated with deficits in coordination between the different heads of the quadriceps muscle; however, considerable debate exists in the literature regarding the presence of such a deficit. Discrepancies between studies may be explained by differences in experimental tasks, such as whether the task is performed with open (OKC) or closed kinetic chain (CKC), or whether the activity is voluntary or triggered. 3. 23. Motion Analysis and Postural Stability of Transtibial Prosthesis Users

    Author : David Rusaw; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : Artificial limb; balance; electromyography EMG ; motion analysis; postural stability;

    Abstract : The AIMS of the thesis were to critically evaluate motion analysis methods used during investigations of transtibial prosthesis users, and to propose improvements to these methods. Additionally, the aim was to evaluate if vibratory feedback could be used to improve postural stability in transtibial prosthesis users and how being a prosthesis user influenced muscular response to postural perturbations. 4. 24. Imbalance and fractures in the elderly Effects of decreased vibration sensation and vestibular asymmetry

    Author : Ella Kolbrun Kristinsdottir; Lund näs- och halssjukdomar Öron-; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; rehabilitation; Rehabilitering medicinsk och social ; Postural Control; Elderly; Vibration sensation; Vestibular asymmetry; Falls; Fractures.; Surgery; orthopaedics; traumatology; Kirurgi; ortopedi; traumatologi; Otorhinolaryngology; audiology; auditive system and speech; revalidation; kinesitherapy; Physical medicine; hörsel- och talorganen; audiologi; Otorinolaryngologi;

    Abstract : Control of the upright stance and locomotion is a complicated process of muscular activity. The muscular activity is dependant on afferent information from the different sensory organs and interpretation in the central nervous system. Age-related degenerative changes exist in all the domains concerned with control of posture. READ MORE

  5. 25. The influence of sex hormones on neuromuscular function and premenstrual symptoms

    Author : Linda Ekenros; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : postural control;

    Abstract : The menstrual cycle with fluctuation in female sex hormones has been suggested to influence neuromuscular function. However, variation in ligament laxity, soft tissue stiffness, and skeletal muscle strength across the menstrual cycle has led to conflicting results. READ MORE
