  1. 6. The rolling resistances of roller skis and their effects on human performance during treadmill roller skiing

    Author : Mats Ainegren; Peter Carlsson; Marko Laaksonen; Per Tesch; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Blood lactate; cycle length; cycle rate; heart rate; oxygen uptake; performance; power; roller skis; rolling resistance; ratings of perceived exertion; work economy; Sports; Idrott;

    Abstract : Modern ski-treadmills allow cross-country skiers, biathletes and ski-orienteers to test their physical performance in a laboratory environment using classical and freestyle techniques on roller skis. For elite athletes the differences in performance between test occasions are quite small, thus emphasising the importance of knowing the roller skis’ rolling resistance coefficient, µR, in order to allow correct comparisons between the results, as well as providing the opportunity to study work economy between different athletes, test occasions and core techniques. 2. 7. Structural and Electrical Transport Properties of Doped Nd-123 Superconductors

    Author : Shaban Reza Ghorbani; KTH; []
    Keywords : high temperature superconductors; critical temperature; resistivity; thermoelectric power; Hall coefficient; X-ray diffraction; Neutron diffraction; NdBa2Cu3O7-delta; hole concentration; substitution;

    Abstract : It is generally believed that one of the key parameterscontrolling the normal state and superconducting properties ofhigh temperature superconductors is the charge carrierconcentrationpin the CuO2planes.By changing the non-isovalent dopingconcentration on the RE site as well as the oxygen content in(RE)Ba2Cu3O7−δ, an excellent tool is obtained tovary the hole concentration over a wide range from theunderdoped up to the overdoped regime. 3. 8. Ultrasound Contrast Agents Loaded with Magnetic Nanoparticles : Acoustic and Mechanical Characterization

    Author : VeeraVenkata Satyanarayana Kothapalli; Lars-Åke Brodin; Jan Engvall; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Ultrasound contrast agents; SPION nanoparticles; harmonic oscillation; backscattering power; attenuation coefficient; phase velocity; nonlinear equation of motion;

    Abstract : The current methodologies in body scanning diagnostic uses different simultaneous imaging modalities like Ultrasound (US), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), single photon emission tomography (SPECT) and positron emission tomography (PET). The field requires combination of different modalities for effective use in clinical diagnostics. READ MORE

  4. 9. Condition measuring and lifetime modelling of electrical power transmission equipment

    Author : Per Westerlund; Patrik Hilber; Tommie Lindquist; Carl-Ejnar Sölver; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; disconnectors; circuit breakers; reliability; lifetime; electric contacts; electric power transmission; Electrical Engineering; Elektro- och systemteknik;

    Abstract : The electric grid is important in modern society, so the outages should be few. The transmission grid should have a real high availability, since it transports electrical energy across the country. Then, it is difficult to plan outages for maintenance and installation. READ MORE

  5. 10. Fluid Mechanics of Vertical Axis Turbines : Simulations and Model Development

    Author : Anders Goude; Olov Ågren; Carlos Simão Ferreira; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Wind power; Marine current power; Vertical axis turbine; Wind farm; Channel flow; Simulations; Vortex model; Streamtube model; Control system; Graphics processing unit; CUDA; Fast multipole method; Engineering Science with specialization in Science of Electricity; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot elektricitetslära;

    Abstract : Two computationally fast fluid mechanical models for vertical axis turbines are the streamtube and the vortex model. The streamtube model is the fastest, allowing three-dimensional modeling of the turbine, but lacks a proper time-dependent description of the flow through the turbine. READ MORE
