  1. 1. Modeling, Control and Protection of Low-Voltage DC Microgrids

    Author : Daniel Salomonsson; Lennart Söder; Brian K. Johnsson; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; circuit transient analysis; dc power systems; dispersed storage and generation; load modeling; power conversion; power distribution control; power distribution faults; power distribution protection; power electronics; Electric power engineering; Elkraftteknik;

    Abstract : Current trends in electric power consumption indicate an increasing use of dc in end-user equipment, such as computers and other electronic appliances used in households and offices. With a dc power system, ac/dc conversion within these loads can be avoided, and losses reduced. READ MORE

  2. 2. Power Electronics for Mitigation of Voltage Sags and Improved Control of AC Power Systems

    Author : Marcio Magalhães de Oliveira; KTH; []
    Keywords : power electronics; power quality; voltage sags; voltage-source converters; Custom Power; FACTS; real-time simulations; solid-state devices;

    Abstract : The thesis deals with the application of compensators andswitches based on power electronics in AC transmission anddistribution systems. The objective of the studieddevices/equipment is the power flow and voltage control intransmission systems and the mitigation of voltage sags andmomentary interruptions to critical loads in distributionsystems. 3. 3. Electric Power Generation and Storage Using a High Voltage Approach

    Author : Björn Bolund; Mats Leijon; Hans Bernhoff; Tore Undeland; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Engineering physics; Flywheel; Generation; Generator; High Voltage; Power flow; Poynting; Teknisk fysik;

    Abstract : Production and consumption of electricity have grown enormously during the last century. No mater what the primary source of energy is, almost all generation of electricity comes from conversion of a rotational movement in a generator. The aim of this thesis is to see how high voltage technology influence production and storage of electricity. READ MORE

  5. 5. Power System Stability Enhancement Using Shunt-connected Power Electronic Devices with Active Power Injection Capability

    Author : Mebtu Bihonegn Beza; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Power Oscillation Damping POD ; energy storage; Adaptive estimation; Static Synchronous Compensator STATCOM ; Recursive Least Square RLS ; Transient Stability Enhancement TSE ; FACTS; Static Var Compensator SVC ;

    Abstract : Power electronic devices such as Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS), both in shunt and series configuration, are widely used in the power system for power flow control, to increase the loading capability of an existing line and to increase the security of the system by enhancing its transient stability. Among the shunt-connected FACTS controllers family, the Static Synchronous Compensator (STATCOM) and the Static Var Compensator (SVC) are two key devices for reinforcing the stability of the AC power system.
