1. Experimental studies of wind turbine wakes : power optimisation and meandering
Abstract : Wind tunnel studies of the wake behind model wind turbines with one, two and three blades have been made in order to get a better understanding of wake development as well as the possibility to predict the power output from downstream turbines working in the wake of an upstream one. Both two-component hot-wire anemometry and particle image velocimetry (PIV) have been used to map the flow field downstream as well as upstream the turbine. READ MORE

2. Modelling the Role of Nuclear Power and Variable Renewables in Climate Change Mitigation
Abstract : As the number of people on Earth and our energy needs have increased the system for providing this energy has become ever more complex and complicated and thus the need for more systematic understanding of it has grown. However, change in energy system is slow and many of the challenges that we face such as mitigating climate change need global solutions. READ MORE

3. Optimisation and Application of Intense High-Order Harmonic Pulses
Abstract : The high-order harmonics that are created in the interaction between an intense laser pulse (around 1014 W/cm2) and a gas medium are studied. The high-order harmonic radiation is a relatively new source of coherent radiation in the short wavelength range. READ MORE

4. Voltage Dip (Sag) Estimation in Power Systems based on Stochastic Assessment and Optimal Monitoring
Abstract : This dissertation deals with the statistical characterization of the performance of power systems in terms of voltage dips (sags). It presents a method named voltage dip estimation that extends monitoring results to buses not being monitored. READ MORE

5. On Distributed Balancing of Wind Power Forecast Deviations in Competitive Power Systems
Abstract : Wind power generation does, on the one hand, contribute to a less polluting and more sustainable electric power generation mix. On the other hand, the uncertainty and the variability of the power output do challenge the operation of the power system: hourly variations in wind power generation are hardly predictable in a precise way.
