  1. 1. Event stratigraphy for the Last Glacial-Holocene transition in eastern middle Sweden

    Author : Jonas Björck; Michael J.C Walker; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Last Glacial-Holocene transition; event stratigraphy; eastern middle Sweden; pollen; plant macrofossils; marine calcareous fossils; microtephra; radiocarbon dating; clay varve chronology; GRIP; ice-core chronology; calendar year chronology; Preboreal oscillation; Yoldia Sea; Baltic Ice Lake; Quaternary Geology; kvartärgeologi;

    Abstract : This thesis outlines an event stratigraphy for the Last Glacial-Holocene transition in eastern middle Sweden. Events are short-lived occurrences that have left traces in the geological record and which, therefore, may be used for correlation and inter-regional comparisons. READ MORE

  2. 2. Late Weichselian and early Holocene changes of vegetation, climate and sea level on the Skagi peninsula, northern Iceland

    Author : Mats Rundgren; Kvartärgeologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; asthenosphere viscosity; glacial loading unloading; marine polar front migrations; sea-level change; climate change; vegetation change; Early Holocene; Late Weichselian; Iceland; Lake sediments; Skagi peninsula; Geology; physical geography; Geologi; fysisk geografi;

    Abstract : Sediment sequences from five lakes on the Skagi peninsula, northern Iceland, were subjected to mineral magnetic analysis, carbon analysis, pollen analysis, plant macrofossil analysis, diatom analysis, radiocarbon dating and tephra analysis in order to make detailed reconstructions of vegetation, climate and sea level during the Late Weichselian and Early Holocene. The main purpose was to investigate if the dramatic deglacial climatic shifts recorded in proxy records from the North Atlantic region, such as ice cores, marine sediments and lake sediments, also are registered in Skagi lake sediments, which would be expected considering Iceland´s position in the middle of the North Atlantic Ocean, within the range of the Late Weichselian–Early Holocene migrations of the marine polar front. 3. 3. Tephra horizons in the North Atlantic region during the Early Holocene

    Author : Ewa Lind; Stefan Wastegård; Margareta Hansson; Britta Sannel; Victoria Smith; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Tephrochronology; geochemical composition; Saksunarvatn Ash; Vedde Ash; Fosen Tephra; Askja-S; palaeoclimate; Younger Dryas; Early Holocene; “XRF ITRAX”; sediment geochemistry; stable isotopes; Faroe Islands; Norway; Sweden; kvartärgeologi; Quaternary Geology;

    Abstract : Uncertainties about the rate and magnitude of future climate change have drawn attention to the climate variability following the Late Glacial-Early Holocene transition, c. 12-8 ka BP. READ MORE

  4. 4. Towards an Early Holocene Tephrochronology for the Faroe Islands: Methodology and first results

    Author : Ewa Lind; Stefan Wastegård; Margareta Hansson; Britta Sannel; Jane Boygle; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Quarternary Geology; kvartärgeologi;

    Abstract : The uncertainties regarding future climate change have put considerable notice to the climate variability following the Late Glacial-Holocene transition (ca. 13-9 ka BP) in the North Atlantic region as well as the forcing mechanisms behind climate changes. READ MORE
