  1. 16. Antimicrobial peptides in the treatment of infectious and inflammatory conditions : Preclinical studies of mechanism of action, efficacy, and safety

    Author : Camilla Björn; RISE; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; antimicrobial peptides; AMPs; innate immunity; infection; inflammation; mechanism of action; efficacy; safety; antimicrobial resistance; antibiotic resistance; Antimicrobial peptides; AMPs; innate immunity; infection; inflammation; mechanism of action; efficacy; safety; antimicrobial resistance; antibiotic resistance;

    Abstract : The rapid emergence of antibiotic-resistant microbes worldwide and the urgent need of new antimicrobial agents have stimulated interest in antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) as new therapeutics for treatment of infectious diseases. AMPs are present in all living species and constitute an important part of the innate immune system in multicellular organisms, including humans. READ MORE

  2. 17. Preclinical Development of New Alkylating Oligopeptides for Cancer Therapy

    Author : Joachim Gullbo; Rolf Larsson; Peter Nygren; Staffan Eriksson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmacology; pharmacology; oncology; chemistry; Melphalan derivatives; Farmakologi; Pharmacological research; Farmakologisk forskning;

    Abstract : Oligopeptides can be used to carry cytotoxic agents in cancer chemotherapy, using tumour-associated proteins as the molecular target for selectivity. During the seventies and eighties Peptichemio, a cocktail of six alkylating oligopeptides carrying m-L-sarcolysin, was investigated in a wide variety of human malignancies. READ MORE

  3. 18. Application of new methodology for preclinical development of anticancer drugs : With special focus on camptothecin derivatives and the cyanoguanidine CHS 828

    Author : Elin Jonsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Medical sciences; drug development; hollow-fiber model; FMCA; human tumour cell; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; klinisk farmakologi; Clinical Pharmacology;

    Abstract : This work describes the development and evaluation of new methods for preclinical anticancer drug development. The methods were specifically applied to study camptothecin analogues and the new compound CHS 828 (N-(4-chlorophenoxyhexyl)-N'-cyano-N"-4-pyridylguanidine) currently in early clinical trials. 4. 19. Pathophysiology and treatment of Takotsubo Syndrome - insights from preclinical studies

    Author : Anwar Ali Gasim Elsied; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Takotsubo;

    Abstract : ABSTRACT Background: Takotsubo syndrome (TTS), also recognized as “stress-induced cardiomyopathy (SIC)” and “broken heart syndrome”, is an acute cardiac failure syndrome characterized by transient regional ventricular akinesia or hypokinesia, and often presents similarly to acute myocardial infarction (AMI). In contrast to AMI, the characteristic regional myocardial akinesia in TTS does not involve a culprit coronary artery. READ MORE

  5. 20. Olfactory Function : The Influence of Demographic, Cognitive, and Genetic Factors

    Abstract : Olfactory function is affected by demographic, cognitive, and genetic factors. In the present thesis, three empirical studies investigated individual differences in olfactory ability. Study I explored demographic and cognitive correlates in common olfactory tasks; odor detection, odor discrimination, and odor identification. READ MORE
