    Abstract : This investigation is devoted to the study of welding and its effect on the workpiece, focusing on the thermo and fluid dynamical phenomena occuring during a autogenous or nonautogenous arc fusion welding process. Its aim is to simulate the behaviour of the weld pool and analyze the consequence of the solid-liquid phase change, thus obtaining a methodology for predicting the appearance of weld defects related to solidification and cooling. 2. 2. Computational weld mechanics : Towards simplified and cost effective FE simulations

    Author : Ayjwat Awais Bhatti; Zuheir Barsoum; Lennart Josefson; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Vehicle and Maritime Engineering; Farkostteknik;

    Abstract : It is the demand of the world’s ever increasing energy crisis to reduce fuel consumption wherever possible. One way of meeting this demand is by reducing the weight of a structure by replacing thick plates of low strength steel with thin plates of high strength steel in the structure. READ MORE

    Author : Davood Afshari; Zuheir Barsoum; Arne Melander; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Spot Weld; Aluminum alloy; Mechanical Properties; Finite Element; SRA - Production; SRA - Produktion;

    Abstract : This licentiate thesis is concerned with residual stresses in aluminum alloy 6061-T6 resistance spot welded joint. Several topics related to mechanical strength of welded structures are treated such as; nugget size and microhardness and microstructures of weld zone and their influence on mechanical strength of welded structure, failure load measurement using tensile-shear test, resistance spot welding simulation, residual stress measurement by X-ray diffraction method and analysis effect of welding parameters on the mechanical strength and the residual stresses. 5. 5. Fatigue strength of engineering materials : the influence of environment and porosity

    Author : Jan Linder; Bengt Lindberg; Lennart Josefsson; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Stainless steel; cast aluminium; hardened steels; fatigue; corrosion; crack propagation; spot weld; porosity; Other materials science; Övrig teknisk materialvetenskap;

    Abstract : The objective of this work was to use LEFM in order to assess the detrimental influence of surrounding chloride-containing environments for stainless steels, hardened steel as well as for a cast aluminium alloy. An additional aim was also to use LEFM to assess the influence of porosity on the fatigue properties for different commercial cast aluminium alloys and manufacturing methods. READ MORE
