6. Cases of coupled vibrations and prametric instability in rotating machines
Abstract : The principal task in this research project was to analyse the causes and consequences of coupled vibrations and parametric instability in hydropower rotors; where both horizontal and vertical machines are involved. Vibration is a well-known undesirable behavior of dynamical systems characterised by persistent periodic, quasi-periodic or chaotic motions. READ MORE

7. Experimental studies in jet flows and zero pressure-gradient turbulent boundary layers
Abstract : This thesis deals with the description and development of two classical turbulent shear flows, namely free jet and flat plate turbulent boundary layer flows. In both cases new experimental data has been obtained and in the latter case comparisons are also made with data obtained from data bases, both of experimental and numerical origin. READ MORE

8. Nasal CPAP support of newborn infants : measurements of interface leakage and performance of selected systems
Abstract : Objective: The most common treatment for newborns in respiratory distress is nasal continuous positive airway pressure (nCPAP). Comparing clinical studies have shown a better outcome and a lower risk of chronic lung disease compared to invasive mechanical ventilation (MV) when used as primary treatment. READ MORE

9. Electronic and dynamical aspects of the stability of metallic structures
Abstract : The structural phase stability of several transition metalsystems have been studied, using first-principles electronicstructure calculations. Frozen phonon techniques have been usedto study the details of structural phase transformations e.g. READ MORE

10. Interaction of sound waves with a swirl stabilized wood powder flame and their effects on flame characteristics
Abstract : Swirling flows have been widely used for many years in engineering applications such as; chemical and mechanical mixing devices, separation units, spray drying technologies, turbo machinery and combustion systems. In practical combustion applications, swirl motion has been adopted to the incoming reactant flows in order to enhance the mixing of fuel and oxidizer and to improve flame stabilization and establishment, especially in regions of relatively low velocities, by recirculating hot product gas to the incoming reactants.
