  1. 1. Recent Extraction Techniques with Emphasis on Supercritical Fluid Extraction and Microwave-assisted Extraction

    University dissertation from Cecilia Sparr Eskilsson, Analytical Chemistry, Lund University

    Author : Cecilia Sparr Eskilsson; [2003]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Analytisk kemi; Analytical chemistry; Pressurized hot water extraction; Pressurized liquid extraction; Microwave-assisted extraction; Recent extraction techniques; Supercritical fluid extraction;

    Abstract : Today’s requirements of fast, reliable and selective analytical methods with minimal usage of organic solvents have accelerated the development of new, automated extraction techniques. In this thesis recent extraction techniques with emphasis on supercritical fluid extraction (SFE) and microwave-assisted extraction (MAE) were investigated. READ MORE

  2. 2. Analysis of PAHs and their transformations products in contaminated soil and remedial processes

    University dissertation from Umeå : Kemi

    Author : Staffan Lundstedt; Umeå universitet.; [2003]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Environmental chemistry; polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons; PAHs; degredation; transformation; formation; accumulation; oxidation products; metabolites; oxogenated polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons; oxy-PAHs; soil; gasworks; remediation; bioremediation; bioslurry; wood-rotting fungi; Fenton´s reagent; avaliability; bioavaliability; chemical analysis; extraction; pressurized liquid extraction; PLE; accelerated solvent extraction; ASE; Miljökemi; NATURAL SCIENCES Chemistry Environmental chemistry; NATURVETENSKAP Kemi Miljökemi; Analytical Chemistry; analytisk kemi;

    Abstract : Soil that is heavily contaminated with polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) is often found at the sites of former gasworks and wood-impregnation plants. Since PAHs are toxic these sites represent a hazard to human health and the environment, and therefore they need to be treated, preferably by a method that destroys the contaminants, and thus eliminates the problem permanently. 3. 3. Development of Fast, Quantitative, Selective and Bioavailability-Predictive Extraction Procedures for Determination of Halogenated POPs in Environmental Matrices

    University dissertation from Department of Analytical Chemistry, Lund University

    Author : Rikard Westbom; [2007]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Environmental chemistry; Analytisk kemi; Analytical chemistry; sample preparation; pressurized liquid extraction; persistent organic pollutants; supercritical fluid extraction; Miljökemi;

    Abstract : This thesis concerns the analysis of anthropogenic substances of the compound class known as persistent organic pollutants (POPs). Sample preparation perspectives for the analysis of POPs in the environmental matrices water, soils and sediments are presented. READ MORE

  4. 4. Rapid sample preparation and bioanalytical techniques for efficient screening of organic pollutants in the environment

    University dissertation from Umeå : Kemi

    Author : Malin Nording; Umeå universitet.; [2006]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; accelerated solvent extraction; CAFLUX; food; immunoassay; PAH; PCDD; PCDF; pressurized liquid extraction; soil; CALUX; cell-based bioassay; chemically activated fluorescent gene expression; chemically activated luciferase gene expression; dioxin; ELISA; enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay; feed; NATURAL SCIENCES Chemistry Environmental chemistry; NATURVETENSKAP Kemi Miljökemi;

    Abstract : Large numbers of samples often need to be prepared and analysed in surveys of organic pollutants in the environment, but while the methods commonly used in such surveys can provide abundant detail they are generally costly, time-consuming and require large amounts of resources, so there is a need for simpler techniques. The work underlying this thesis assessed the potential utility of more convenient sample preparation and bioanalytical techniques for rapidly screening various environmental matrices that could be useful complements to higher resolution methods.
