  1. 1. Monoaminergic modulation in spinal reflex pathways from group I afferents

    Author : Ingela Hammar; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : primary afferents; spinal interneurones; ventral spinocerebellar tract neurones; noradrenaline; serotonin; cat;

    Abstract : Serotonin and noradrenaline are known to play an important part in modulation of spinal neuronal networks. Group I muscle afferents mediate information on dynamic changes of muscle length and tension, and modulation of actions from these afferents could be of importance for the execution of movements. 2. 2. Neuronal tracers for fine caliber spinal primary afferents and their response to peripheral nerve injury

    Author : H Fredrik Wang; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Rat; Primary afferents; Dorsal root ganglion; Peripheral nerve injury; Spinal cord; Isolectin GSA I-B4; Soybean agglutinin; Cholera toxin B subunit; Horseradish peroxidase; Immunohistochemistry; Neuronal tracing;

    Abstract : The isolectin B4 from Griffonia simplicifolia I (B4) and soybean agglutinin from the plant Glycine max (SBA), have been shown to bind to rat small-diameter dorsal root ganglion (DRG) neurons, and to fibers and presumed terminals in laminae I-II of the spinal cord dorsal horn. In the present thesis, these lectins and/or their horseradish peroxidase (HRP) conjugates, have been investigated in the rat with regard to their usefulness as selective neuronal markers of and axonally transported tracers for somatic and/or visceral spinal primary afferents with fine caliber, including unmyelinated, axons. 3. 3. Classification of muscle stretch receptor afferents in humans

    Author : Benoni B. Edin; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Muscle spindles; Golgi tendon organs; Classification of muscle receptors; Microneurography; Human hand; Stretch sensitization; Voluntary contraction; Static position sensitivity; Fusimotor control;

    Abstract : The response patterns of human stretch receptors in the finger extensor muscles of the forearm were studied using the microneurography technique. Single-unit recordings were obtained from one-hundred and twenty-four afferents. READ MORE

  4. 4. Discharges in human muscle afferents during manual tasks

    Author : Michael Dimitriou; Benoni Edin; Roger Lemon; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; motor control; muscle spindle; Golgi tendon organ; muscle afferent; microneurography; proprioception; sensorimotor; fusimotor; hand; forward model; ; Neuroscience; Neurovetenskap;

    Abstract : Muscle spindles are complex sensory organs that have been strongly implicated in the control and perception of movements. Human muscle spindles in relaxed muscles behave as stretch receptors, responding to the length and velocity of their parent muscles. READ MORE

  5. 5. Hedonic, neural, and autonomic responses to prolonged gentle touch

    Author : Chantal Triscoli; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; long-lasting touch; CT afferents; pleasantness; liking; wanting; satiety; orbitofrontal cortex; reward; heart rate variability;

    Abstract : Physical contact among individuals, such as caressing and cuddling, is connoted by a strong emotional value, and is usually perceived as a pleasant and rewarding experience. C tactile (CT) afferents are a class of fibres that are specific channels for detecting touch at a caress-like veloc-ity (between 1 and 10 cm/s). READ MORE
