  1. 1. Very Low Bitrate Video Communication : A Principal Component Analysis Approach

    Author : Ulrik Söderström; Haibo Li; Luis Torres; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Video compression; Very low bitrate; Principal component analysis; Complexity; Semantically important areas; Wearable video; Other electrical engineering; electronics and photonics; Övrig elektroteknik; elektronik och fotonik;

    Abstract : A large amount of the information in conversations come from non-verbal cues such as facial expressions and body gesture. These cues are lost when we don't communicate face-to-face. But face-to-face communication doesn't have to happen in person. With video communication we can at least deliver information about the facial mimic and some gestures. READ MORE

  2. 2. Very low bitrate facial video coding : based on principal component analysis

    Author : Ulrik Söderström; Haibo Li; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Image processing; Video processing; Very low bitrate coding; Other electrical engineering; electronics and photonics; Övrig elektroteknik; elektronik och fotonik;

    Abstract : This thesis introduces a coding scheme for very low bitrate video coding through the aid of principal component analysis. Principal information of the facial mimic for a person can be extracted and stored in an Eigenspace. Entire video frames of this persons face can then be compressed with the Eigenspace to only a few projection coefficients. READ MORE

  3. 3. Towards Intelligent Deformable Models for Medical Image Analysis

    Author : Ghassan Hamarneh; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; shape modeling; deformable models; principal component analysis; echocardiography; snakes; active shape models; deformable spatio-temporal shape models; medial-based shape profiles; statistical shape variation; spatio-temporal shape analysis; magnetic resonance imaging; hierarchical regional principal component analysis; oral lesions; dynamic programming; segmentation; spring-mass model; shape deformation; optical flow; medical image analysis; artificial life; physics-based modeling; deformable organisms; digital color images; medial axis; active contour models;

    Abstract : Medical imaging continues to permeate the practice of medicine, but automated yet accurate segmentation and labeling of anatomical structures continues to be a major obstacle to computerized medical image analysis (MIA). Deformable models, with its profound roots in estimation theory, optimization, and physics-based dynamical systems, represent a powerful approach to the general problem of medical image segmentation. 4. 4. Principal Word Vectors

    Author : Ali Basirat; Joakim Nivre; Hinrich Schütze; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; word; context; word embedding; principal component analysis; PCA; sparse matrix; singular value decomposition; SVD; entropy;

    Abstract : Word embedding is a technique for associating the words of a language with real-valued vectors, enabling us to use algebraic methods to reason about their semantic and grammatical properties. This thesis introduces a word embedding method called principal word embedding, which makes use of principal component analysis (PCA) to train a set of word embeddings for words of a language. Abstract : Shikimic acid production using recombinant E.coli has been developed during the past 15 years due to the increased demand of this product, primarily as a starting material for the anti-influensa medicine Tamiflu?. A detailed metabolic analysis of a shikimic acid producing E. READ MORE
