    Abstract : Word embedding is a technique for associating the words of a language with real-valued vectors, enabling us to use algebraic methods to reason about their semantic and grammatical properties. This thesis introduces a word embedding method called principal word embedding, which makes use of principal component analysis (PCA) to train a set of word embeddings for words of a language. 2. 2. Modular Enzyme-Responsive Polysaccharide-Based Hydrogels for Biofabrication

    Author : Sajjad Naeimipour; Daniel Aili; Robert Selegård; Alireza Dolatshahi-Pirouz; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; 3D cell-culture; Bioprinting; Alginate; Hyaluronan; Cancer model;

    Abstract : Engineered human tissue and disease models can decrease the cost and time of developing new drugs and treatments, facilitate personalized medicine, and eliminate the need for animal models that poorly represent the human body and are ethically problematic. However, the current conventional cell expansion methods using 2D culture flasks cannot enable the development of such complex multi-cellular 3D models. READ MORE

  3. 3. Modular Hyaluronan-Based Hydrogels for 3D Cell Culture and Bioprinting

    Author : Michael Jury; Daniel Aili; Robert Selegård; My Hedhammar; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Hyaluronan; 3D cell-culture; Biofunctionality; Bioprinting;

    Abstract : Three-dimensional (3D) cell culture facilitates development of biological relevant assays for drug screening and toxicity testing. Compared to conventional 2D cell culture, cells cultured in 3D can more accurately mimic human tissues and organs and thus provide ex vivo data with potentially better predictive value for cancer research, pharmacology, and toxicology, reducing the need for animal models, improving experimental reproducibility, and reducing time and costs in drug development. 4. 4. Ultracold atoms in optical potentials : from noise-induced transport to superfluidity

    Author : Martin Zelan; Claude Dion; Sile Nic Chormaic; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : Brownian motors; noise-induced transport; superfluidity; ultracold atoms; optical potentials; optical lattices; laser coooling; fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : In this thesis, both experimental studies and numerical simulations of ultracold atoms in optical potentials are presented in a collection of nine scientific papers. In particular, noise-induced transport in dissipative optical lattices and superfluid properties of Bose-Einstein condensates have been studied. READ MORE

  5. 5. Enhancing the therapeutic effect of biological drugs with protein engineering : Focusing on pre-clinical Alzheimer’s disease therapy

    Author : Fadi Rofo; Greta Hultqvist; Stina Syvänen; Sara Mangsbo; Joy Zuchero; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Alzheimer’s disease; amyloid-beta; blood-brain barrier; transferrin receptor; protein-drugs; multivalent-bispecific antibodies;

    Abstract : Aggregation of the amyloid-β peptide (Aβ) is one of the main pathological hallmarks in Alzheimer’s disease (AD). The soluble Aβ aggregates (oligomers and protofibrils) have shown to be the most harmful species. Hence, targeting these aggregates can be of therapeutic potential. READ MORE
