1. Sensitivity, Noise and Detection of Enzyme Inhibition in Progress Curves
Abstract : Starting with the development of an enzymatic assay, where an enzyme in solution hydrolysed a solid-phase bound peptide, a model for the kinetics of enzyme action was introduced. This model allowed the estimation of kinetic parameters and enzyme activity for a system that has the peculiarity of not being saturable with the substrate, but with the enzyme. READ MORE

2. Lubricants influence on wear in sharp rail curves
Abstract : Rail lubrication in curves was widely introduced in Sweden during the 1970’s due to the high wear rate of gauge faces in sharp curves. The first tests performed in Sweden showed that lubrication decreased wear rates by roughly 10 times. Based upon these results, the Swedish track system was equipped with wayside lubricators called Clicomatic. READ MORE

3. Income, Energy Taxation, and the Environment : An Econometric analysis
Abstract : This thesis consists of four papers: two of them deal with the relationship between consumption, energy taxation, and emissions on macro level, and two of them focuses on the effects of changes in consumption and income on the environmental quality on a micro level. The main objective of paper [I] is to examine how exogenous technological progress, in terms of an increase in energy efficiency, affects consumption choice by Swedish households and thereby emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2), sulphur dioxide (SO2) and nitrogen oxide (NOx). 4. Reaction Mechanisms of Metalloenzymes and Synthetic Model Complexes Activating Dioxygen : A Computational study
Abstract : Quantum chemistry has nowadays become a powerful and efficient tool that can be successfully used for studies of biosystems. It is therefore possibleto model the enzyme active-site and the reactions undergoing into it, as well as obtaining quite accurate energetic profiles. READ MORE

5. Insights into population structure and epidemiology of Phytophthora infestans from Nicaragua
Abstract : Late blight caused by Phytophthora infestans (Mont) de Bary is a constraint to both potato and tomato crops in the northern highlands of Nicaragua. This thesis describes studies on population structure and epidemiology of P. infestans from Nicaragua. The genotypic and phenotypic variation in isolates of P. READ MORE
