  2. 7. Clinical and Genetic Studies of Hearing Impairment

    Author : Carina Frykholm; Ulla Friberg; Hans-Christian Larsen; Niklas Dahl; Marie-Louise Bondeson; Lisbeth Tranebjaerg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Otorhinolaryngology; NF2; array-CGH; Meniere’s disease; PIK3C2G; X-linked; progressive; hearing impairment; Otorhinolaryngologi;

    Abstract : Monogenic disorders offer a possibility for studies of genetic disturbances in hearing impairment—a knowledge which could be essential for development of future treatment options. In this thesis, the underlying genetic disturbances in neurofibromatosis 2 (NF2) and familial Meniere’s disease (FMD) were evaluated, and familial X-linked hearing impairment was described from a clinical point of view. 3. 8. Progressive stroke : clinical course and outcome

    Author : Åsa Rödén-Jüllig; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Acute stroke; Carotid artery disease; Heparin; Progressive stroke; Outcome; Stroke assessment;

    Abstract : The knowledge about progression of symptoms in acute stroke patients was scanty when this thesis was planned. The aim was therefore to study if the rate and type of progression, had any impact on patient outcome, predictors for progression and effectiveness of heparin treatment. READ MORE

  4. 9. Methods for efficient modelling of progressive failure in laminated fibre-reinforced composites

    Author : Johannes Främby; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Composites; Progressive failure; Crash simulation; Adaptive modelling;

    Abstract : To meet increasing demands on reduced CO2 emissions, the automotive industry is currently very active in research to reduce vehicle weight by incorporating laminated composites (primarily carbon fibre-reinforced polymers) into structural components. Historically, composite materials have mainly been used in the aerospace industry, whereby CAE-based design and development tools for composite structures have been developed primarily to the specific needs and requirements in this industry. 5. 10. Progressive landslides in long natural slopes : potential extension and configuration of finished slides in strain-softening soils

    Author : Stig Bernander; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Structural Engineering; Konstruktionsteknik; Soil Mechanics; Geoteknik;

    Abstract : A finite difference method is presented for progressive slides in long natural slopes. The method is based on a strain softening material model. A detailed worked out example is given as well as examples using a spread sheet PC program and a PC program for Windows. READ MORE
