  1. 11. Coke on Supported Palladium and Platinum Catalysts

    Author : Mikael Larsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TPO; palladium; deactivation; coke; propane dehydrogenation; microbalance; vegetable oil hydrogenation; acetylene hydrogenation; catalysis; platinum;

    Abstract : Catalyst deactivation by coke formation has been investigated in three heterogeneous catalytic processes, propane dehydrogenation, acetylene hydrogenation and hydrogenation of vegetable oil. Palladium and/or platinum supported on alumina were used as catalysts in all reactions. READ MORE

  2. 12. Transient Phenomena in CO and Hydrocarbon Oxidation over Supported Platinum Catalysts

    Author : Per-Anders Carlsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; mean-field kinetics simulations; ignition; environmental heterogeneous catalysis; flow-reactor studies; periodic operation; extinction; low-temperature activity; transient methods; in situ spectroscopy;

    Abstract : The aim with this thesis work was to better understand transient phenomena involved in the low-temperature oxidation of CO and hydrocarbons by oxygen over typical oxidation catalysts. Supported platinum catalysts were prepared and carefully studied under transient conditions by means of flow-reactor experiments, different in situ spectroscopic (FTIR and XANES) methods in combination with mass spectrometry and mean-field kinetics simulations. 3. 13. Low-Temperature Oxidation of CO and Volatile Organic Compounds over Supported Platinum Catalysts

    Author : Karl Arnby; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; hexamethyldisiloxane; alumina; catalytic deactivation; environmental catalysis; platinum; volatile organic compounds; carbon monoxide; low-temperature activity;

    Abstract : The catalytic oxidation of carbon monoxide (CO) and volatile organic compounds (VOC) is important for the reduction of harmful emissions from both vehicles and from stationary sources. Both these applications suffer from poor catalytic efficiency at lower temperatures. READ MORE

  4. 14. Numerical Modelling of Soot Formation in Turbulent Non-Premixed Flames

    Author : Olga Roditcheva; Strömningsteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Motorer; Motors and propulsion systems; Teknik; Technological sciences; oxidation of soot.; soot; polutant formation; flamelet approach; Combustion; turbulence; framdrivningssystem; Thermal engineering; applied thermodynamics; Termisk teknik; termodynamik;

    Abstract : This thesis describes an extended flamelet approach for modelling of soot formation in turbulent hydrocarbons diffusion flames. Detailed chemical kinetic mechanisms are used to compute species concentrations, temperature, density and soot formation rates as functions of flamelet coordinates in the space of mixture fraction and scalar dissipation rate. 5. 15. Upscaling and Evaluation of Absorption Based Systems for Co-removal of NOx and SOx from Flue Gases

    Author : Jakob Johansson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; absorption; gas-phase oxidation; scale-up; Emissions control; SOx; NOx; ClO2;

    Abstract : As long as combustion remains a vital part of the energy system, the removal of nitrogen oxides (NOx) will be a challenge that will need to be addressed. In addition, emissions of sulfur oxides (SOx) will be a problem as long as fuels such as coal and oil are used, as is envisaged in every road map suggested by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPPC).
