  1. 1. Prostasomes as Diagnostic, Prognostic and Therapeutic Vesicles

    Author : Louise Dubois; Anders Larsson; Lucia Mincheva-Nilsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Exosomes; Prostasomes; Lipid rafts; Bioengineered vesicles; Prostate cancer; Purinergic receptors; Thymidine kinase 1; Medical Biochemistry; Medicinsk biokemi;

    Abstract : This thesis explores prostasomes and their ability to be used as a new diagnostic tool for prostate cancer. Alongside diagnosis, this thesis also suggests prostasomes as a tool for prognosis and therapeutic treatment in patients with prostate cancer. READ MORE

  2. 2. Perspectives on the Biological Role of Human Prostasomes

    Author : Lena Carlsson; Outi Hovatta; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Medical sciences; Prostasomes; cryopreservation; human spermatozoa; sperm motility; anti- prostasome antibodies; PC-3 cells; Bacillus megaterium; antibacterial; antisperm antibodies; complement activation; sperm agglutination; infertility; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Clinical Chemistry; klinisk kemi;

    Abstract : Prostasomes are extracellularly occurring organelles which are secreted in human semen by the prostate gland. Prostasomes have several known biological activities, but their physiological function is still unclear. In this thesis some new aspects were studied on the biological role of the prostasomes. 3. 3. Some Characteristics of Human Prostasomes and Their Relationship to Prostate Cancer

    Author : Göran Ronquist; Anders Larsson; Lena Carlsson; Alicia Llorente; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Prostasomes; prostate; prostate cancer; clusterin; antibodies; metastasis; exosomes; PC-3 cells; DNA vehicles; gene therapy; immunoblotting; mass spectrometry; agarose gel electrophoresis; vertebral metastasis.; Clinical chemistry; Klinisk kemi; Clinical Chemistry; klinisk kemi;

    Abstract : Background: The secretory epithelial cells of the prostate gland use sophisticated vehicles named prostasomes to relay important information to sperm cells in semen. This prostasome-forming and secretory ability of the epithelial cells is also preserved in poorly differentiated prostate cancer cells. READ MORE

  4. 4. Formation,Storage and Secretion of Prostasomes in Benign and Malignant Cells and Their Immunogenicity in Prostate Cancer Patients

    Author : Göran Sahlén; Gunnar Ronquist; Ove Nilsson; Bo Johan Norlén; Anders Bjartell; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Surgery; Prostasomes; prostate cancer; antibodies; origin; seminal vesicles; Kirurgi;

    Abstract : Prostasomes are submicron-sized, membrane-bound organelles produced by the epithelial cells of the prostate and normally found in the secretion in the gland ducts. Their physiological role is in the promotion of sperm-function in human reproduction. READ MORE

  5. 5. Prostasome Modulation of Blood Cascade System and Phosphoprotein Reactions with Focus on Prostate Cancer

    Author : Adil Abdelgadir Babiker; Kristina Nilsson Ekdahl; Michael Wilson; Uppsala universitet; []

    Abstract : Prostasomes are extracellularly occurring submicron, membrane-surrounded organelles produced by the epithelial cells of the prostate and present in semen. Their precise physiological role is not known, although some of their properties assign them to important physiological and patho-physiological functions. READ MORE
