  1. 1. Extensive tooth wear in adults : classification and prosthetic treatment

    Author : Wedad Hammoudi; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Background: Tooth wear (TW) is an insidious and cumulative mul- tifactorial process that may comprise erosion, abrasion or attrition, and combinations thereof. These different processes are of chemical or physical origin and not microbiological. READ MORE

  2. 2. Tooth loss and prosthetic replacements among persons with dependency and functional limitations

    Author : Angelika Lantto; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The overall aim of this thesis was to obtain a decision basis for assessments and planning regarding prosthetic treatments for persons with dependency and functional limitations. For this purpose the epidemiology of tooth loss and prosthetic replacements was mapped out, and the patient perspective was reflected in studies performed in Norrbotten County, the northernmost part of Sweden. 3. 3. On failures and complications of tooth-supported fixed prostheses

    Author : Mohammed Hawthan; Christel Larsson; Bruno Ramos Chrcanovic; Ulf Örtengren; Malmö universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Loss of tooth structure or loss of the tooth may affect masticatory function, phonetics, a person´s appearance, and might ultimately impair quality of life. Fixed prosthetic rehabilitation in the form of either fixed dental prosthesis (FDP)or single crown (SC) is a reliable treatment alternative to restore lost functions. READ MORE

  4. 4. Sensory-motor regulation of human biting behavior

    Author : Krister Svensson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : In order to control oral motor behavior, such as biting and chewing, we rely on information provided by a variety of sense organs, including periodontal mechanoreceptors (PMRs). The PMRs, located among the collagen fibers in the periodontal ligament that attaches the root of the tooth to the alveolar bone, send signals to the central nervous system when the surrounding collagen fibers are stretched by loading of the tooth. 5. 5. Comparative in vivo and in vitro studies on the biomechanics of maxillary partial dentures. A methodological and experimental study

    Author : Cláudio Pinheiro Fernandes; Lunds universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; stomatology; biomechanics; Bite force; conical crowns; denture design; in vitro; in vivo; photoelasticity; strain gauges; Odontology; stress analysis.; Odontologi;

    Abstract : Biomechanical aspects are generally agreed to be significant, particularly during the planning of restorative treatments and the design of prosthetic appliances. However, comparative in vivo/in vitro studies show wide differences in the magnitudes and patterns of functional strains in prosthetic devices. READ MORE
