  1. 1. Protein Damage Control during Embryonic Stem Cell Differentiation: Role of the Proteasome

    Author : Malin Hernebring; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Embryonic Stem Cells; Proteasome; Protein Carbonylation; Advanced Glycation End products; Cell Differentiation; Oxidative stress; Aging; RNAi;

    Abstract : During the lifespan of organisms ranging from yeast to humans, there is an accumulation of macromolecular damage. However, these organisms produce youthful progeny with low damage levels. This thesis focuses on how this is accomplished. READ MORE

  2. 2. The Path to Destruction : Understanding the mechanism and regulation of proteasomal degradation

    Author : Anne Beskow; Patrick Young; Ylva Engström; Bernat Crosas; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Proteasome; ubiquitin; p97; Cnc-C; transcription factors; Nrf1; Nrf2; Molecular Biology; molekylärbiologi;

    Abstract : A majority of intracellular proteins are degraded by the ubiquitin proteasome system (UPS). In this thesis, both the mechanism of the degradation and the regulation of UPS have been investigated. The importance of the p97 ATPase for proteasomal degradation of cytosolic substrates was examined. READ MORE

  3. 3. On Aging, Behavior and the Role of PA28αβ in Protein Homeostasis

    Author : Julia Adelöf; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Aggregation prevention; Aging; Animal ethics; Cataract; Exploratory behavior; F2 hybrid mice; Healthy aging; Learning and memory; PA28αβ; Proteasome capacity; Sex comparisons; Water-based behavioral tests;

    Abstract : As life expectancy increases, understanding challenges related to the processes of aging are more relevant than ever. Common age-related diseases progress as consequences of accumulative protein damage and protein aggregates. READ MORE

  4. 4. The role of the ubiquitin-proteasome system in neurodegenerative disorders

    Author : Lisette Gerridina Gezina Catharina Verhoef; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Degradation; green fluorescent protein GFP ; neurodegeneration; polyglutamine; proteasome; UBB 1; ubiquitin;

    Abstract : Neurodegenerative disorders are a heterogeneous group of clinically and pathologically diverse diseases. The diseases are characterised by selective loss of neurons. in specific regions of the brain. The result is disruption of motor, sensory or cognitive systems, leading to severe disability of the patients. READ MORE

  5. 5. Effects of proteasome inhibitors on chondrogenesis and linear bone growth

    Author : Emma Eriksson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Linear bone growth occurs at the growth plate, a thin layer of cartilage between the epiphysis and metaphysis of long bones. In the growth plate, resting/stem-like chondrocytes divide and generate the highly proliferative chondrocytes, which further differentiate into the enlarged hypertrophic form before being substituted by bone, a process called endochondral ossification.
