1. Protecting Our Children : A comparative study of the dynamics of structure, intervention and their interplay in Swedish child welfare and Canadian child protection
Abstract : This dissertation is a case study of how two agencies in Umeå, Sweden and Barrie, Canada protect children found in need of child welfare services. The project's purposes are to describe how children are protected from harm in these two contexts, to illuminate the similarities and differences in the child welfare systems reflected at the local level, and explicate the significance of uncovered similarities and differences. 2. To prevent without over-protecting : children and senior citizens injured during outdoor activities
Abstract : Background: Injuries are a common public health problem. Non-fatal injuries may result in pain and disabilities. Falls are a common causes of non-fatal injuries and many of these injuries occur during some physical activity. READ MORE

3. Glycoconjugates : synthesis and investigation of carbohydrate-protein interactions
Abstract : To study the functions of glycoconjugates in biological systems reliable and efficient protocols for glycoconjugate synthesis are needed. To reach this goal we have developed methods for solid-phase synthesis of glycoconjugates that can be monitored with gel-phase 19F spectroscopy using fluorinated linkers, building blocks, and protecting groups. 4. Development and characterisation of protecting groups that enhance the solubility of synthetic peptides : Methods to improve the aqueous solubility of hydrophobic peptides
Abstract : Chemical synthesis of peptides is generally performed by solid phase peptide synthesis (SPPS). Although SPPS is a rapid and convenient method to prepare peptides, the major methodological problem in SPPS is related to solvation/solubility. READ MORE
