  1. 16. Advanced Fluorescence Microscopy to Study Plasma Membrane Protein Dynamics

    Author : Joachim Piguet; Horst Vogel; Ruud Hovius; Jerker Widengren; Antoine Triller; Switzerland Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL); []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; fluorescence; microscopy; plasma membrane; membrane proteins; membrane proteins diffusion; single-molecule imaging; single-molecule tracking; pentameric ligand-gated ion channels; nicotinic acetylcholine receptor; serotonin receptor; synapse; neuromuscular junction; post-synaptic scaffold; rapsyn; myopathies; fluorescent proteins; Förster resonance energy transfer; FRET imaging; protein-protein interactions; protein trafficking; photo-activatable proteins; Biological Physics; Biologisk fysik;

    Abstract : Membrane protein dynamics is of great importance for living organisms. The precise localization of proteins composing a synapse on the membrane facing a nerve terminus is essential for proper functioning of the nervous system. In muscle fibers, the nicotinic acetylcholine is densely packed under the motor nerve termini. READ MORE

  2. 17. Dynamics of protein folding and subunit interactions in assembly of the yeast mediator complex

    Author : Zaki Shaikhibrahim; Stefan Björklund; Bengt-Harald Jonsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : mediator; transcriptional regulation; assembly; folding; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; medicinsk biokemi; Medical Biochemistry;

    Abstract : The Mediator complex was originally discovered in the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae and has since then been shown to be required for transcriptional regulation both in vitro and in vivo. The Mediator complex also stimulates basal, unregulated transcription and serves as a bridge by conveying signals from promoter-bound transcriptional regulatory proteins such as activators and repressors to the RNA Polymerase II general transcriptional machinery. 3. 18. Nucleolar Ribosome Assembly

    Author : Fredrik Lackmann; Lars Wieslander; Denis Lafontaine; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ribosome biogenesis; RNA; Nucleolus; Molecular Biology; molekylärbiologi;

    Abstract : Ribosomes are macromolecular machines that are responsible for production of every protein in a living cell. Yet we do not know the details about how these machines are formed. The ribosome consists of four RNA strands and roughly 80 proteins that associate with each other in the nucleolus and form pre-ribosomal complexes. READ MORE

  4. 19. Fluorescent Probes and Protein Misfolding: Methods and Applications

    Author : Irem Nasir; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Protein misfolding; fluorophores; filter-trap; site-specific fluorophore labeling; amyloid-beta; microscopic rate constants; solvatochromic probes; alpha-synuclein; lipid vesicles; nanoparticles; protein adsorption;

    Abstract : Protein misfolding is a frequently occurring event in living cells and without the quality control, the consequences are disasterous. In this thesis, we studied protein misfolding in vitro by employing a variety of fluorophores, to either detect the highly ordered aggregates of intrinsically disordered proteins/peptides or slight misfolding of a natively folded protein. 5. 20. The social life of a membrane protein; It's complex

    Author : Isolde Palombo; Daniel Daley; Said Eshaghi; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; membrane proteins; assembly; cofactors; magnesium; Escherichia coli; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Abstract : Membrane proteins are key players in many biological processes. Since most membrane proteins are assembled into oligomeric complexes it is important to understand how they interact with each other. Unfortunately however, the assembly process (i.e. READ MORE
