  1. 1. On aging and the role of Ubp3 in heterochromatic gene silencing and protein quality control

    University dissertation from Göteborg : University of Gothenburg

    Author : David Öling; Göteborgs universitet.; Gothenburg University.; [2014]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Aging; Protein damage; Segregation; Transcriptional silencing; rDNA; UBP3; SIR2; Protein aggregates;

    Abstract : Aging is characterized by a build-up of damage in organisms ranging from protists to multi-cellular species. This damage adversely affects core components such as DNA and proteins which are necessary to sustain life. READ MORE

  2. 2. Damage Segregation and Cellular Rejuvenation in Saccharomyces cerevisiae

    University dissertation from Göteborg : University of Gothenburg

    Author : Sandra Malmgren Hill; Göteborgs universitet.; Gothenburg University.; [2015]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Aging; protein damage; quality control; metacaspase; aggregates; segregation; vacuole;

    Abstract : The process of aging is defined as a time-dependent decline in cellular functionality, and aging is thought to have evolved as organisms were optimized for reproduction, at the cost of an imperfect repair and maintenance system. As a consequence, different kinds of dysfunctional components and damage accumulate over time. READ MORE

  3. 3. Oxidative damage and the DNA glycosylase MutYH

    University dissertation from Göteborg : University of Gothenburg

    Author : Kristina Jansson; Göteborgs universitet.; Gothenburg University.; [2010]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Oxidative damage; 8-oxo-7; 8-dihydro-2′-deoxyguanosine; Base excision repair; DNA glycosylase; Mismatch repair; DNA damage checkpoint; 9-1-1 complex; Glutathione-S-transferases; Colon cancer.;

    Abstract : The DNA glycosylase MutYH is highly conserved throughout evolution, and homologs are found in most eukaryotes and prokaryotes examined. MutYH functions as a base excision repair DNA glycosylase that excises adenines misincorporated opposite 8-oxo-7,8-dihydro-2′-deoxyguanosine (8-oxodG), one of the most stable products of oxidative DNA damage. 4. 4. Structural and functional studies of C4b-binding protein (C4BP)

    University dissertation from Lena Kask, Wallenberg Laboratory, floor 6, entrance 46, UMAS, S-205 02 Malmö

    Author : Lena Kask; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; [2004]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; phagocytosis; apoptosis; protein S; complement control protein CCP domains; factor H fH ; Complement; C4b-binding protein C4BP ; intracellular assembly; Clinical chemistry; Klinisk kemi;

    Abstract : The subject of this thesis is complement inhibitor C4b-binding protein (C4BP), on which we have performed both structural and functional studies. Complement is part of the innate immune defence and eliminates microbes, solubilises immune complexes and is involved in the clearance of apoptotic cells. READ MORE

  5. 5. Ribonucleotide reductase and DNA damage

    University dissertation from Umeå : Umeå universitet

    Author : Pelle Håkansson; Umeå universitet.; [2006]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; ribonucleotide reductase; DNA damage; dNTP pools; MEDICINE Morphology; cell biology; pathology Cell biology Medical cell biology; MEDICIN Morfologi; cellbiologi; patologi Cellbiologi Medicinsk cellbiologi;

    Abstract : A prerequisite for a multicellular organism to survive is the ability to correctly replicate and repair DNA while minimizing the number of heritable mutations. To achieve this, cells need a balanced supply of deoxyribonucleoside triphosphates (dNTPs), the precursors for DNA synthesis. READ MORE
