  1. 1. Poly(N-Isopropylacrylamide) Polymer Brush Functionalized Nanostructures as Thermo-Responsive Gating Systems for Protein Transportation

    Author : Justas Svirelis; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; biomolecule transportation; Poly N-Isopropylacrylamide ; polymer brushes; fluorescence microscopy; thermo-responsive polymers; surface plasmon resonance;

    Abstract : Controlling molecule translocation through nanosized gaps is of great interest in novel systems for single molecule analysis and biomolecular membranes. The molecular gating property of thermo-responsive end-grafted poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) polymer brushes on well-shaped gold-silica nanostructures is intended to be investigated for controlled protein transportation via extinction spectroscopy and fluorescence microscopy methods below and above PNIPAM lower critical solution temperature (LCST; 32 °C in water). 2. 2. Properties of Protein and Polymer Systems

    Author : Fredrik Carlsson; Avdelningen för Konstruktionsteknik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fysikalisk kemi; Physical chemistry; lysozyme; mica; surface; dimerization; precipitation; aggregate; cluster; complex; polyelectrolyte; protein; polymer;

    Abstract : Interactions of proteins with other proteins, with polymers and with surfaces are of great practical importance within for instance protein purification, drug delivery, and food technology. The aim of this work is to increase the understanding of protein-protein, protein-polyelectrolyte, and protein-surface interactions, particularly concerning the role of electrostatic interactions in these systems. Abstract : The preparation of sustainable protein superabsorbents from agricultural industry side-streams is reported. Wheat gluten (WG), a co-product from the ethanol/starch industry, was processed into foams with sponge-like behavior and high liquid uptake. READ MORE

  4. 4. Protein-Polymer Interaction and Association in Aqueous Solution

    Author : Malin Jönsson; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi; Makromolekylär kemi; Macromolecular chemistry; enzymologi; Proteiner; enzymology; Proteins; Aqueous two-phase systems; Monte Carlo Simulations; hydrophobic effect; surface hydrophobicity; plasmid DNA; Protein; polymer;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis has been to study protein-polymer interaction and association. Two different techniques were used; Monte Carlo simulations were combined with partitioning in polymeric aqueous two-phase systems. Monte Carlo simulations have been used to evaluate the hydrophobic interaction in electrolyte solution. READ MORE

    Author : Justas Svirelis; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; biomolecule transportation; protein interaction; polymer brushes; quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation monitoring; fluorescence microscopy; Poly N-Isopropylacrylamide ; surface plasmon resonance; poly ethylene glycol ;

    Abstract : Trapping biomolecules in nanosized gaps is of great interest in novel systems for single molecule analysis and membranes, which filter biomolecules. Current platforms are lacking in full functionality to facilitate biomolecule trapping and transport in their native environment and without covalent tethering to surfaces. READ MORE
