  1. 6. Structural and thermodynamical basis for molecular recognition between engineered binding proteins

    Author : Jakob Dogan; Per-Åke Nygren; John E. Ladbury; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; protein structure; induced fit; binding thermodynamics; NMR spectroscopy; protein engineering; protein-protein interactions; protein stability; calorimetry; Structural biochemistry; Strukturbiokemi;

    Abstract : The structural determination of interacting proteins, both as individual proteins and in their complex, complemented by thermodynamical studies are vital in order to gain in-depth insights of the phenomena leading to the highly selective protein-protein interactions characteristic of numerous life processes. This thesis describes an investigation of the structural and thermodynamical basis for molecular recognition in two different protein-protein complexes, formed between so-called affibody proteins and their respective targets. 2. 7. Theoretical and Biochemical : Advancing Protein Structure Investigations with Complementing Computations

    Author : Maxim N. Brodmerkel; Erik G. Marklund; Carl Caleman; Charlotte Uetrecht; Helmut Grubmüller; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Molecular dynamics simulation; Protein structure; Structural biology; Protein hydration; Electric dipole; Collision Induced Unfolding;

    Abstract : Life as we know it today would not exist without proteins. The functions of proteins for us and other organisms are linked to their three-dimensional structures. As such, protein structure investigations are a crucial contribution for understanding proteins and the molecular basis of life. READ MORE

  3. 8. Zinc in folding and misfolding of SOD1 : Implications for ALS

    Author : Lina Leinartaité; Mikael Oliveberg; Bengt-Harald Jonsson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; protein stability; protein misfolding; local unfolding; metal binding; energy landscape; protein disease; amyotrophic lateral sclerosis; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Abstract : Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a neurodegenerative disease causing degeneration of upper and lower motor neurons. Most ALS cases are sporadic; only 6% are associated with mutations in Cu, Zn superoxide dismutase (SOD1). READ MORE

  4. 9. NMR studies of protein dynamics and structure

    Author : Jörgen Ådén; Magnus Wolf-Watz; Michael Sattler; Umeå universitet; []

    Abstract : Enzymes are extraordinary molecules that can accelerate chemical reactions by several orders of magnitude. With recent advancements in structural biology together with classical enzymology the mechanism of many enzymes has become understood at the molecular level. READ MORE

  5. 10. Protein Folding Studied by Site Directed Mutagenesis

    Author : Tomas Ternström; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Metabolism; Biokemi; metabolism; Biochemistry; Transition state; Activation Barrier; Two-State; Protein Folding; Protein Engineering;

    Abstract : The N-terminal RNA binding domain of U1A has been shown to fold in a two-state process without accumulating any intermediates. U1A has a symmetrically curved chevron plot which seems to result mainly from changes of the transition state. READ MORE
