  1. 1. Magnesium Chelatase: Insights into the first Step of Chlorophyll Biosynthesis

    University dissertation from KFS AB

    Author : Nick Sirijovski; [2006]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Electron microscopy; Proteobacteria; Mutants; Rhodobacter capsulatus; Tetrapyrrole; Plant biochemistry; Växtbiokemi; Biochemistry; Metabolism; Biokemi; metabolism; Proteins; enzymologi; enzymology; Proteiner; Chlorophyll biosynthesis; AAA proteins; Magnesium chelatase; Barley; ATPase;

    Abstract : The enzyme magnesium chelatase inserts magnesium into protoporphyrin IX (Proto) to produce to magnesium protoporphyrin IX, the first unique intermediate of the chlorophyll biosynthetic pathway. Magnesium chelatase is composed of three distinct proteins termed I (molecular weight ~40 kDa), D (~70 kDa) and H (~140 kDa). READ MORE

  2. 2. Lifestyle and Genome Evolution in Vector-Borne Bacteria A Comparison of Three Bartonella Species

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Anna Carolin Frank; Uppsala universitet.; [2005]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biology; Bartonella; evolution; host-restriction; vector-borne; horizontal gene transfer; genome reduction; alpha-proteobacteria; Type-IV secretion; Biologi; NATURAL SCIENCES Biology; NATURVETENSKAP Biologi;

    Abstract : Bacterial genomes provide records of the molecular processes associated with emergence and evolution of different bacterial lifestyles. This thesis is based on whole-genome comparisons within the genus Bartonella, an excellent model system for studies of host- and vector-specificity and infection outcome in animal-associated bacteria. 3. 3. Travel – a risk factor for disease and spread of antibiotic resistance

    University dissertation from Umeå : Umeå universitet

    Author : Martin Angelin; Umeå universitet.; [2015]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Accident Prevention; Alcohol Drinking; Anti-Bacterial Agents; Antimalarials; Beta-Lactamases; Drug-Resistance; Bacterial; Enterobacteriaceae; Health Knowledge; Attitudes; Practice; High-Throughput Nucleotide Sequencing; Medication Adherence; Metagenome; Metagenomics; Patient Compliance; Proteobacteria; Risk Reduction Behaviour; Risk-Taking; Safe Sex; Travel medicine; Travel; Vaccination; Infectious Diseases; infektionssjukdomar; mikrobiologi; Microbiology;

    Abstract : As international travel is rapidly increasing, more people are being exposed to potentially more antibiotic resistant bacteria, a changed infectious disease epidemiology, and an increased risk of accidents and crime. Research-based advice is needed to adequately inform travellers about these risks. READ MORE

  4. 4. Mitochondrial Evolution Turning Bugs into Features

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Olof Karlberg; Uppsala universitet.; [2004]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biology; Biologi; NATURAL SCIENCES Biology; NATURVETENSKAP Biologi;

    Abstract : The bacterial origin of mitochondria from an ancient endosymbiosis is now widely accepted and the mitochondrial ancestor is generally believed to belong to the bacterial subdivision α-proteobacteria. The high fraction of mitochondrial proteins encoded in the nucleus has commonly been explained with a massive transfer of genes from the genome of the ancestral mitochondrion. READ MORE

  5. 5. Mitochondrial and Eukaryotic Origins A Phylogenetic Perspective

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Björn Brindefalk; Uppsala universitet.; [2009]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Molecular evolution; Phylogenetics; Mitochondrial origin and Evolution; NATURAL SCIENCES Biology Cell and molecular biology Molecular biology; NATURVETENSKAP Biologi Cell- och molekylärbiologi Molekylärbiologi; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Abstract : Mitochondria are eukaryotic cellular organelles responsible for power-generation, believed to have come into existence by an endo-symbiontic event where a bacterial cell was incorporated by an un-specified "proto-eukaryote". Phylogenetic analysis have shown that the mitochondrial ancestor was most related to present-day alpha-proteobacteria, although the exact nature of the mitochondrial progenitor remains disputed.
