  1. 1. Chymotrypsin/trypsin-related serine proteases : A structural, functional and evolutionary analysis

    Author : Maryam Poorafshar; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biochemistry; serine proteases; proteoglycans; mast cells; basophils; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi; immunologi; Immunology;

    Abstract : Is life possible without proteolytic enzymes? Proteases participate in almost everyaspect of life and they can be found throughout the body and in every cell. Mast cells,together with basophils are, two important effector cells of the immune system. READ MORE

  2. 2. Proteoglycans, group IIA phospholipase A2, and lipoproteins.Potential involvement in atherogenesis

    Author : Peter Sartipy; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; atherosclerosis; group IIA phospholipase A2; proteoglycans; lipoproteins; inflammation;

    Abstract : Atherosclerosis is a multifactorial complex disease characterized by a focal accumulation of ApoB-100 containing lipoproteins, extracellular matrix (ECM), and cells in the arterial intima accompanied by an inflammatory reaction. In vivo and in vitro data supports the hypothesis that sulfated extracellular proteoglycans may be responsible for the selective retention of low density lipoproteins (LDL) in the arterial wall. 3. 3. Glypican-1: Structural and functional analysis of the N-glycosylated human protein

    Author : Wael Awad Abdelhady; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Proteoglycans; glypicans; glypican-1; heparan sulphate; N-glycosylation; exostosin-proteins; X-ray crystallography; crystal dehydration; diffraction anisotropy; Small angle X-ray scattering SAXS9; protein spectroscopy;

    Abstract : Glypicans are multifunctional cell surface heparan sulphate proteoglycans co-regulating numerous signalling pathways, and are thereby involved in the control of cellular division, differentiation, and morphogenesis. The heparan sulphate (HS) chains are responsible for many of those biological functions; nevertheless recent studies suggest functional roles for the glypican core proteins in mediating the signalling of various growth factors. 4. 4. Towards cell replacement therapy in Parkinson’s disease. Proteoglycans and Nogo-A as modulators of axonal growth in midbrain dopaminergic neurons

    Author : Zuzanna Kurowska; Neural plasticitet och reparation; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; LUHMES cells; substantia nigra pars compacta; microarray; heparan sulphate 3-O-sulfotransferase; neurocan; midbrain dopaminergic neurons; grafting; embryonic stem cells; proteoglycans; glycosaminoglycans; Nogo-A; cell replacement therapy; Parkinson’s disease;

    Abstract : Parkinson’s disease (PD) is currently the second most common neurodegenerative disorder (after Alzheimer’s disease). PD is diagnosed on its motor symptoms, which include akinesia, bradykinesia, rigidity, postural imbalance and resting tremor. It is well established that the motor symptoms develop due to lack of dopamine in the striatum. READ MORE

  5. 5. The role of glycoproteins in glomerular pathophysiology

    Author : Alina Khramova; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Proteoglycans; Extracellular matrix; IgA nephropathy; Diabetic kidney disease;

    Abstract : Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is increasing worldwide and has a prevalence of around 10%. With time patients are at risk of losing their renal function and will need dialysis or transplantation for survival. There are no specific treatments available and mechanisms behind the onset and progression of CKD are still not fully investigated. READ MORE
