1. Aspects of bone quality and risk assessments in fracture and elective orthopaedic patients
Abstract : Background: Bone quality, bone strength, and bone remodelling are important in many orthopaedic conditions and can have an impact on fracture incidence, bone healing, implant failure, and different outcome aspects. There is relatively sparse information on fracture incidence and mortality both for all fractures compiled and for some of the individual fracture locations. READ MORE

2. Studies of tibial fractures using the Swedish Fracture Register
Abstract : This thesis has two topics. First, the creation and application of the Swedish Fracture Register (SFR) is described. Second, a series of studies of tibial fractures based on data from the SFR follows. READ MORE

3. Spontaneous correction of fracture deformity : a study in the rat
Abstract : The aim of the present study was to elaborate a model in the rat permitting analysis of bone modeling to correct fracture deformity. Among conceivable regulators of this process, the study focused on the peripheral nervous system by analyzing markers of regenerating (GAP-43), mature (PGP 9.5) and sensory (CGRP) nerve fibers at the fracture site. 4. Effects of anabolic hormone treatment in elderly patients with hip fracture
Abstract : The principal aims of these studies were to investigate the status of hip fracture patients regarding BMD, body composition and some nutritional factors at the time of the fracture and changes in these variables during the postoperative period. A further aim was to determine whether anabolic hormone treatment could had any beneficial effects after a hip fracture. READ MORE

5. Inflammation in Cancellous and Cortical Bone Healing
Abstract : Fractures in humans most commonly occur near the joints, in the metaphyseal bone area mainly consisting of cancellous bone. Despite this, mainly cortical fractures, located in the diaphyseal bone area, have been studied in experimental models of bone healing. READ MORE
