  1. 1. When the Rubber Meets the Road -Ecotoxicological Hazard and Risk Assessment of Tire Wear Particles

    Author : Anna Wik; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; tire wear; tire particles; rubber; leaching tests; ecotoxicity tests; Daphnia magna; Ceriodaphnia dubia; Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata; Danio rerio; toxicity identification evaluation; detention ponds; hazard assessment; risk assessment;

    Abstract : Large amounts of rubber particles are dispersed into the environment due to tire wear. The rubber contains a wide range of chemicals, including several of environmental concern. The purpose of this th.. READ MORE

  2. 2. Mixture toxicity of pesticides and biological effects in agricultural streams : field and laboratory studies

    Author : Jenny Rydh Stenström; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The main objective of this thesis was to examine pesticide mixture toxicity and its effects on aquatic biota in agricultural streams. This was accomplished by (1) calculating the ΣTUs for algae and Daphnia magna and a pesticide toxicity index (PTI) based on water quality standards (WQS) for long-term monitoring data (2002-2010), (2) by performing algal inhibition tests with Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata, using both collected in situ water samples and reconstituted water spiked with field-observed pesticide mixtures, and (3) by studying seasonal changes in macroinvertebrate and diatom communities during 2008 in four agricultural streams and determine a set of community-based metrics such as species richness, diversity, ASPT, SPEAR and IPS. 3. 3. Assessment of waters with complex contamination : Effect-based methods for evaluating wastewater treatment requirements and efficiency

    Author : Veronica Ribé; Åke Forsberg; Monica Odlare; Emma Nehrenheim; Rune Berglind; Magnus Breitholtz; Mälardalens högskola; []
    Keywords : Effect-based test methods; wastewater treatment; ecotoxicology; bioassays; Energy- and Environmental Engineering; energi- och miljöteknik;

    Abstract : The access to clean water is one of the prerequisites for a modern, industrialized society. The amount of water withdrawn for human activities has risen exponentially during the last 100 years. This rise in water use is accompanied by the production of vast quantities of contaminated water.
