  1. 26. Chiral building blocks for synthesis of pine sawfly sex pheromones Enantioselective Lipase Catalysed Acylations and Esterifications of Primary Alcohols and Acids and Synthesis of the Sex Pheromone of the Pine Sawfly Microdiprion pallipes

    Author : Ba-Vu Nguyen; KTH; []
    Keywords : lipase; Pseudomonas cepacia; Candida rugosa; enantioselective; enantiomeric ratio; primary 2-methylalcohol; substituted-methylcarboxylic acid; pine sawfly; Microdiprion pallipes; sex pheromone; 3; 7; 11-trimethyl-2-tridecanol; stereoisomer;

    Abstract : This thesis describes the development of new methods for thepreparation of enantiomerically pure methyl branched alkylcompounds and their use as building blocks in the synthesis ofstereoisomerically pure pheromones of pine sawflies.The high regioselectivity, enantioselectivity and activityof lipases in organic solvent in conjunction withenvironmentally compatible reaction conditions have madelipase-catalysed synthesis an attractive alternative toconventional synthetic methods in organic chemistry. 2. 27. Electrosurgical plasma-mediated ablation for application in dermal wound and cartilage debridement - Biochemical, microbiological and clinical effects

    Author : Henrik H. Sönnergren; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; ablation techniques; aerosol; antibacterial; arthroscopy; bacterial spread; bactericidal; bipolar radiofrequency; Candida albicans; cartilage; Coblation; debridement; electrosurgery; Escherichia coli; hydrosurgery; plume; Pseudomonas aeruginosa; Staphyloccus aureus; Streptococcus pyogenes;

    Abstract : The state of matter known as plasma has in the latest decades been investigated within different areas of medical treatment. The work presented in this thesis has focused on a specific type of plasma-based electrosurgical treatment modality (Coblation®) and its biochemical, microbiological and clinical effects on treatment of cartilage and of dermal wounds. Author : Sohidul Islam; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The progressive increase in fluoroquinolone resistant N. gonorrhoeae and emergence of multiple antibiotic resistant P. aeruginosa are growing concerns among physicians and health policy makers. In N. READ MORE

  4. 29. On dysregulated inflammation and airway host defense

    Author : Ravi K. V. Bhongir; allergologi och palliativ medicin Lungmedicin; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Aiway inflammation; Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease COPD ; Cystic Fibrosis; Pseudomonas aeruginosa; DNase I;

    Abstract : Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and cystic fibrosis (CF) are characterized by dysregulated inflammation of the airways. The increased influx of immune cells and the accumulation of cytokines lead to cell death, tissue destruction and impaired pulmonary function. READ MORE

  5. 30. Understanding and improving microbial cell factories through Large Scale Data-approaches

    Author : Daniel Brink; Teknisk mikrobiologi; []

    Abstract : Since the advent of high-throughput genome sequencing methods in the mid-2000s, molecular biology has rapidly transitioned towards data-intensive science. Recent technological developments have increased the accessibility of omics experiments by decreasing the cost, while the concurrent design of new algorithms have improved the computational work-flow needed to analyse the large datasets generated.
