1. Idiopathic environmental intolerance attributed to electromagnetic fields : physiological and psychological aspects
Abstract : This thesis aims to increase the knowledge on people with symptoms attributed to electromagnetic fields (EMF) by investigating the effects of EMF exposure and by additional description of the heterogeneous group of people reporting EMF-related symptoms. The effect of mobile phone (MP)-like radio frequency (RF) fields on symptoms, autonomic nervous system (ANS) parameters, short-term memory, and reaction time in persons with MP-related symptoms (MP participants) was investigated in a provocation study. Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to investigate relationships between dental anxiety (DA), psychosocial factors, oral health and oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) in adults, and to assess the efficacy of cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) as treatment for DA. Study I is a national Swedish survey, studies II and III are clinical cross-sectional studies on patients with severe DA, and study IV consists of a systematic review and a meta-analysis. READ MORE

Abstract : Background: Adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) affects 1 – 3% of all children aged 10 – 16 years; of these approximately 80% are girls. Scoliosis surgery is a major (one of the most extensive) elective paediatric orthopaedic procedure and is known to cause severe and excruciating pain that requires advanced postoperative pain management. 5. Colposcopy after cervical dysplasia: psychological aspects
Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to conduct a prospective investigation of anxiety and its long-term effects on women referred for colposcopy after an abnormal cervical smear. The thesis comprises four articles, all based on a study of the current life situation, anxiety (Spielberger's state-trait anxiety inventory, STAI), depression (Montogomery Isberg Depression Rating Scale self-rate), psychosexuality, and quality of life (Health Survey Short Form-36) in 100 women referred for colposcopy and at follow-up six months and two years later.
