  2. 2. X-ray Spectroscopic Studies of Materials for Nuclear Technology

    Author : Johan Vegelius; Sergei Butorin; Frank de Groot; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; XAS; XES; RIXS; amorphous; DOS; spectroscopy; actinides; copper; uranium; plutonium;

    Abstract : X-ray spectroscopic experiments, including X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS), X-ray emission spectroscopy (XES) and resonant inelastic X-ray scattering (RIXS), were performed in a large energy range (60-9000 eV) on a variety of systems, probing different elements and orbitals. The systems can preferably be divided into three groups: Actinides, copper systems and amorphous materials. READ MORE

  3. 3. Redox Chemistry in Radiation Induced Dissolution of Spent Nuclear Fuel : from Elementary Reactions to Predictive Modeling

    Author : Olivia Roth; Mats Jonsson; David W. Shoesmith; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Nuclear chemistry; Kärnkemi;

    Abstract : The focus of this doctoral thesis is the redox chemistry involved in radiation induced oxidative dissolution of spent nuclear fuel and UO2 (as a model substance for spent nuclear fuel). It is shown that two electron oxidants are more efficient than one electron oxidants in oxidative dissolution of UO2 at low oxidant concentrations. READ MORE

  4. 4. Surface Complexation Studies in An (Th, U(IV), Pu(VI)) Systems

    Author : Mattias Olsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; surface complexation; sorption; adsorption; uranium; surface charge; FITEQL; plutonium;

    Abstract : Two-phase systems containing an electrolyte solution and a suspended solid were studied. The common denominator for the three systems examined in this work is that they contain actinides (elements of atomic numbers between 89 and 103) in either the solid phase or as a sorbate. Experiments were done on simple oxides. READ MORE

  5. 5. Resonant Soft X-ray Spectroscopic Studies of Light Actinides and Copper Systems

    Author : Anders Modin; Sergei Butorin; Lars Werme; Joseph Nordgren; Kevin Smith; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Atomic and molecular physics; Atom- och molekylfysik; Fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : Light actinides and copper systems were studied using resonant soft X-ray spectroscopy.An instrumental and experimental setup for soft X-ray spectroscopy meeting the requirements of a closed source for radioactivity was developed and described in detail. The setup was used for studies of single-crystal PuO2 oxidation. READ MORE
