6. NMR diffusion studies on lyotropic liquid crystalline systems
Abstract : The pulsed field gradient fourier transform nuclear magnetic resonance (PFG-FTNMR) method to measure translational diffusion coefficients in multicomponent systems has been applied to amphiphilic molecules forming liquid crystalline phases.By analyzing the concentration dependence of the diffusion coefficients of water and amphiphile in a micellar system of N,N-dimethyldodecy lamine oxide (DDAO) in water it was possible to conclude that the micelles formed were polydisperse in size and shape. 7. Nuclear Magnetic Relaxation Dispersion and Pulsed-Gradient Spin Echo Studies of Biomolecular Solutions and Amphiphilic Liquid Crystals
Abstract : Biomolecular solutions and amphiphilic liquid crystals are studied by Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Dispersion (NMRD) and Pulsed-Gradient Spin Echo (PGSE) respectively. A random-flight simulation is performed to obtain the obstructing factors for self-diffusion of small molecules in macrofluids. READ MORE

8. Ionic lubricants : Molecular features and surface protection mechanisms
Abstract : In this thesis ionic liquids (ILs) are investigated as prospective candidates for lubrication. Three custom synthesized phosphonium orthoborate type ILs were extensively studied from the prospective of molecular structuring both in bulk and at the interface and from the prospective of their lubricating performance as neat lubricants and as additives in oils. 9. Generic Properties of Polymer Solutions
Abstract : Polymer solutions are abundantly present in our daily life, for example in paints, jellies, contact lenses and even in the living cells. Despite their ubiquity, we still have a poor understanding of the physical properties of solutions due to the extremely large number of internal degrees of freedom. READ MORE

10. NMR Diffusion Studies in Heterogeneous Systems. Surfactant solutions, Polymer solutions and Gels
Abstract : The aim of this study has been to investigate the self-diffusion behaviour in polymer solutions and in surfactant solutions using the pulsed field gradient (PFG) NMR technique. The NMR self-diffusion experiment was shown to provide detailed information in complex surfactant mixtures. READ MORE
