  1. 16. Cell signalling in cancer. A functional and immunochemical investigation of purinergic,adrenergic, nitrergic, and prostaglandin mediated signalling mechanisms in experimental and human cancer

    Author : Gunnar Nylund; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : adenosine-5´-triphosphate; colon cancer; extracellular acidification; melanoma; ; microphysiometer; nitric oxide; noradrenaline; prostaglandin E2; sarcoma; tumour cell; metabolism; uridine-5´-triphosphate;

    Abstract : Disturbed cell signalling is a hallmark of the cancer cell, being one important mechanismbehind uncontrolled cell growth. In the current study, we have investigated cancer cellsignalling with the focus on some first messenger and/or their receptors, in the murine celllines, MCG 101, and K1735-M2, and the human colon cancer cell line, HT-29. 2. 17. Novel in vivo therapeutic approaches to Escherichia coli O157:H7 infection

    Author : Ashmita Tontanahal; Lund Pediatrik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; EHEC; hemolytic uremic syndrome; Shiga toxin; extracellular vesicles; annexin A5; purinergic signaling; ATP; apyrase; IgG; EspP;

    Abstract : Shiga toxin (Stx), the unique virulence factor released by enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli (EHEC), associated with gastrointestinal infection and in severe cases hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS). Up until now, no effective therapies have been developed to control disease progression. READ MORE

  3. 18. On the autonomic control of the lower urinary tract. Functional and morphological aspects in the normal and the inflamed urinary bladder

    Author : Daniel Giglio; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; muscarinic receptor; purinoceptor; adrenoceptor; nitric oxide; in vitro; in vivo; cystometry; Western blot; immunohistochemistry; cystitis; cyclophosphamide; urinary bladder; rat;

    Abstract : The regulation of urinary bladder function involves interplay of signalling systems. Disturbances in any of the interactive systems may result in lower tract dysfunction, which is often apparent to the patient by urge to void or by incontinence, irrespectively of the cause to the lower tract syndrome. 4. 19. Regulatory Functions of the Juxtaglomerular Apparatus

    Author : Ruisheng Liu; Ole Skott; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell biology; mesangial; desensitization; nitric oxide; calcium; P2Y receptor; macula densa; NaCl; luminal. microperfusion; angiotensin; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi; Medicine; medicin;

    Abstract : The tubuloglomerular feedback mechanism is an important regulator in the juxtaglomerular apparatus and it detects flow dependent alterations in luminal NaCl concentration ([NaCl]) at the macula densa (MD) cell site via a Na+-K+-2Cl cotransporter. Signals are sent by the MD to adjust the afferent arteriole tone and altering release of renin. READ MORE

  5. 20. Role of calcium in developing cellular network : Ca2+ in human fetal neural stem cells and rat neonatal cardiomyocytes

    Author : Jeongsook Park; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : This thesis aimed to study Ca2+ homeostasis and its regulation in developing heart and brain cells. Cardiomyocytes rapidly developed a fast calcium machinery, (1) to regulate cytoskeletal protein interactions to the extracellular matrix of neighboring cells through gap junctions, and (2) to induce Ca2+-induced Ca2+ release (CICR) from sarcoplasmic reticulum (SR), (3) to generate rapid energy supply of ATP from mitochondria.
