  1. 1. Getting Personal : A Framework for Context-Aware Services and System Design for Contemporary Mobile Environments

    Author : Athanasios Karapantelakis; Gerald Q. Maguire Jr.; Anders Kofod-Petersen; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; context aware; context-aware; personalized services; Computer science; Datalogi; SRA - ICT; SRA - Informations- och kommunikationsteknik;

    Abstract : This study explores the subject of providing personalized services to mobile users, by exploiting relevant domain knowledge (i.e. contextual information). READ MORE

  2. 2. A Feasibility Study of Wireless Networks for 17 and 60 GHz and the Impact of Deployment Strategies on the System Performance

    Author : Matthias Unbehaun; Jens Zander; Gerald Q. Jr. Maguire; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Information technology; Informationsteknik; SRA - ICT; SRA - Informations- och kommunikationsteknik;

    Abstract : This thesis addresses the question of how to deploy the infrastructure for wireless networks carrying high data rate services. It starts from the assumption that a major part of the costs for installing wireless infrastructure is caused by antenna site acquisition, planning of network coverage and capacity as well as manpower for setting up and wiring the antenna sites. 3. 3. Silicon-based Photonic Devices : Design, Fabrication and Characterization

    Author : Ziyang Zhang; Min Qiu; Thomas Koch; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Photonic Devices; Silicon Photonics; Parallel Computation; Nanofabrication; Electron Beam Lithography; Optical Characterisation; Optics; Optik;

    Abstract : The field of Information and Communication Technologies is witnessing a development speed unprecedented in history. Moore’s law proves that the processor speed and memory size are roughly doubling each 18 months, which is expected to continue in the next decade. READ MORE

  4. 4. Antenna Limitations and Q-factor Trade-off between Parameters, Steps towards Optimal Antenna Design

    Author : Shuai Shi; Lars Jonsson; Ala Sharaiha; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Antenna limitation; Q-factor; directivity; radiation pattern; current optimization; Electrical Engineering; Elektro- och systemteknik;

    Abstract : Sub-wavelength antennas have become ubiquitous in essential devices, such as mobile phones, sensors, Internet of things (IoT) and machine to machine (M2M) communication devices. Such antennas are often embedded as a small part of the device chassis or their circuit-boards. READ MORE

  5. 5. Integrated VCOs in Gallium Arsenide HEMT technologies with a novel varactor structure

    Author : Mattias Ferndahl; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; design; Oscillator; HEMT; pHEMT; MMIC; VCO; varactor; GaAs; mHEMT;

    Abstract : This thesis presents results on metamorphic and pseudomorpic GaAs HEMT based Voltage Controlled Oscillators and a novel high-Q varactor structure, used in the VCOs, together with a straightforward extraction procedure for the varactors.Theory and fundamentals around LC-oscillators with oscillator criteria, phase noise and different topologies are given as background together with VCO phase noise measurement methods and an overview on device flicker noise; its physical origin and measurement.
