  1. 1. Chronic intraoral pain - assessment of diagnostic methods and prognosis

    Author : Maria Pigg; Malmö högskola; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neuropathic pain; Orofacial pain; Trigeminal pain; Clinical studies; Prognosis; Diagnostic methods; Quantitative sensory testing; QST; Chronic pain; Endodontics;

    Abstract : The overall goal of this thesis was to broaden our knowledge of chronic intraoral pain. The research questions were:•What methods can be used to differentiate inflammatory, odontogenic tooth pain from pain that presents as toothache but is non-odontogenic in origin?•What is the prognosis of chronic tooth pain of non-odontogenic origin, and which factors affect the prognosis?Atypical odontalgia (AO) is a relatively rare but severe and chronic pain condition affecting the dentoalveolar region. 2. 2. Corticosteroids in Lumbar Disc Surgery

    Author : Anders Lundin; Olle Nilsson; Björn Rydevik; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; lumbar disc heniation; corticosteroids; outcome; thermal quantitative sensory testing; QST; VAS; disability rating index; DRI; microscopic discectomy; Kirurgi; Surgery; Kirurgi;

    Abstract : In a prospective randomised double-blind study eighty patients with MRI verified lumbar disc herniation and corresponding clinical findings underwent microscopic disc removal. The patients were peroperatively given systemic and local corticosteroids or placebo, and followed for 2 years. READ MORE

  3. 3. Measuring the tactile sense: Cortical mechanisms and clinical applications of tactile direction discrimination

    Author : Linda Lundblad; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : AIC; diabetic neuropathy; DLPFC; fMRI; hairy skin; psychophysics; QST testing; somatosensory cortex; tactile direction discrimination;

    Abstract : Most of the studies aiming to investigate the human tactile sense are done on the glabrous skin. Still, there is a need for a quantitative method for evaluating nervous function of the hairy skin. READ MORE

  4. 4. Methodological aspects and usefulness of Quantitative Sensory Testing in early small fiber polyneuropathy : a clinical study in Swedish hereditary transthyretin amyloidosis patients

    Author : Victoria Heldestad; Erik Nordh; Ole Suhr; Göran Solders; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Amyloidosis; cold thresholds; heart rate variability; method-of-limits; quantitative sensory testing; transthyretine; warm thresholds; Clinical Neurophysiology; klinisk neurofysiologi;

    Abstract : Generalised polyneuropathy (PNP) is a common cause to neurological impairment, and may be an early symptom of a severe systemic disease. One such illness is hereditary transthyretin (TTR) amyloidosis (ATTR), a progressive fatal disorder caused by a mutation on the TTR gene. READ MORE

  5. 5. Quantitative sensory testing, obstructive sleep apnea and peripheral nervous lesions

    Author : Louise Hagander; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska institutet Institutionen för klinisk neurovetenskap Department of Clinical Neuroscience; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE;

    Abstract : In diagnosis of peripheral neuropathies, quantitative sensory testing (QST) is used to assess thermal and vibration sensitivity. QST is a psychophysical method susceptible to the influence of several factors. It is important to standardize the test. Vibrations may cause peripheral nerve lesions. READ MORE
