  1. 1. Risk Talk : On Communicating Benefits and Harms in Health Care

    Author : Mikael Hoffmann; Karin Kjellgren; Mats Hammar; Johan Ahlner; Bengt Mattson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; risk; communication; menopause; hormone replacement therapy; physician-patient relations; Clinical pharmacology; Klinisk farmakologi;

    Abstract : One of the most critical elements in empowering the patient, and ensuring concordance, is communication of the possible benefits and harms of different actions in health care. Risk assessment is a complex task due both to the different interpretations of the concept of risk, and the common lack of hard facts. READ MORE

  2. 2. The medical perspective in prescribing: measurements and educational strategies

    Author : Johan Lönnbro; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; prescribing quality; adverse drug reactions; clinical relevance; inter-rater reliability; education;

    Abstract : Background and aims: Drug treatment is a keystone in modern healthcare and for safe prescribing of drugs, an overall medical perspective has to be applied, taking patient characteristics into account. For each medication, and all medications combined, expected benefits must be weighed against the risks of harms; adverse drug reactions, sometimes leading to hospitalization, is a matter of concern. 3. 3. Signal transduction in the brain : modulation of receptor-mediated inositol phospholipid breakdown by potassium and fluoride ions

    Author : Gunnar Tiger; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Inositol phospholipid breakdown; muscarinic receptors; potassium; fluoride; rat brain; pig brain;

    Abstract : Neurotransmitter receptor types mediating the generation of intracellular signals are of two types; ligand-gated ion channels and G protein coupled receptors. The effector enzyme phosphoinositide-specific phospholipase C (PLC) is modulated by stimulation of G protein coupled receptors, leading to an increased breakdown of inositol phospholipids ("Ptdlns breakdown"). 4. 4. Generation, stability and migration of montmorillonite colloids in aqueous systems

    Author : Sandra García García; Mats Jonsson; Tiziana Missana; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Bentonite; montmorillonite; colloid stability; colloid migration; geological disposal; nuclear waste; granitic fractures; ; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi; Environmental toxicology; Miljötoxikologi; Surface and colloid chemistry; Yt- och kolloidkemi; Nuclear chemistry; Kärnkemi;

    Abstract : In Sweden the encapsulated nuclear waste will be surrounded by compacted bentonite in the granitic host rock. In contact with water-bearing fractures the bentonite barrier may release montmorillonite colloids that may be further transported in groundwater. READ MORE
