1. Conformationally Constrained Oligonucleotides for RNA Targeting
Abstract : A short oligonucleotide sequence as in a single-stranded antisense oligo nucleotides (AON) or in double-stranded small interfering RNAs (siRNA) can modulate the gene expression by targeting against the cellular mRNA, which can be potentially exploited for therapeutic purposes in the treatment of different diseases. In order to improve the efficacy of oligonucleotide-based drugs, the problem of target affinity, nuclease stability and delivery needs to be addressed. READ MORE

2. Endothelin-1-immunoreactive protein and neuroendocrine differentiation and nerve supply in human non-neoplastic and neoplastic adrenal cortex : Immunohistochemical, ultrastructural, and biochemical findings
Abstract : The occurrence and distribution of endothelin (ET)-1-immunoreactive (ir) protein, neuro-endocrine markers and neurohormonal peptides in endocrine cells and nerves in human non-neoplastic and neoplastic adrenal cortex are described.ET-1-ir cell groups were regularly seen in human adrenal cortex, mainly in zona fasciculata, but not in the medulla. 3. Binding of plasma proteins by Staphylococcus epidermidis: characterisation of protein-protein interactions
Abstract : Coagulase-negative staphylococci (CoNS), in particular, Staphylococcus epidermidis, have emerged as major nosocomial pathogens associated with infections of implanted medical devices. These organisms, which are among the most prevalent bacteria of the human skin and mucous membrane microflora, gain access to the surface of the implant at the insertion. READ MORE

4. Investigation on Propeller-Rudder Interaction by Numerical Methods
Abstract : The axial forces in a propeller-rudder interactive system working in uniform flow are theoretically studied: In a steady linear method the propeller is represented by bound and free vortex systems, the rudder by vortex and source filaments and the rudder wake by free vortex filaments. A lifting-line analysis method predicts the propeller characteristics. READ MORE

5. Endothelin and nitric oxide in coronary vascular regulation with special reference to myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury
Abstract : The vascular endothelium plays an important role in the regulation of cardiovascular function by producing bioactive substances such as nitric oxide (NO) and endothelin-I (ET- 1). Recent evidence has revealed that endothelial dysfunction is closely related to myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury. READ MORE
